Great variety of animals.
Some of the patterns are simple and others are intricate. There are many for the younger children as well as some the I call shelf puzzles that are great for display. They all stand up and most are sturdy enough for long lives.

Good patterns of familiar animals for every level of expertise.
I've had the Dinosaur Puzzle book also authored by the Petersons for nearly a year now and the grandkids and great-grands have enjoyed the results of several of those projects. We think they'll like these even better, because they can relate to the animals in this book. Much of the information in the first couple of chapters is nearly identical in these books, but that's a good thing for anyone purchasing just one of them. There are a couple of new techniques shown that are interesting and I plan to try them. The plans in this book have better contrast than in the Dinosaur book and I'm grateful for that. As far as adjusting the size with a copier, I'm fine with that, and have done it several times just to make a puzzle fit a piece of wood I had on hand. A couple of other comments indicated that they weren't happy that a copier was even necessary, because they don't own one. Any office supply store, many drug stores, and most libraries have copiers available for use and the cost is pocket change. One change I'd really like to see them make is the binding. I really don't want to cut the books apart and I've managed to get decent copies from most of the patterns, but I wish they'd go from a conventional paperback to a spiral binding. That would make copying so much easier.

Lots of creative patterns ..... but not enough patterns and more variety would have been helpful.

Great for Gifts
I've made several animal puzzles from this book and it was great! The book was helpful in explaining how to choose the wood, orient the grain direction and make adjustments to the patterns provided. I made a squirrel and cat from oak according to the original pattern and then a fox and tiger from padauk. I used an alternate template provided by the book to make the fox simpler for a young child and chose to make the tiger solid for a baby.

Great resource for upping your scroll saw game
This is a great resource for beginner/intermediate woodworkers trying to advance their skills with a scroll saw. The templates are great & the tips are wonderful as well. I’m very pleased with this book.

Great Content and Fun Projects
I'm new to scroll saw work and I'vebeen limited to making small name plates for my kids lockers and for my wife and friends desks. I purchased this book because it looked like a neat way to get into something different with the scroll saw.The information provided in the book is very helpful and easy to read. The projects in the book are just fun. Animal profiles and puzzle shapes are little more forgiving then the some of the letters I had to make for name plates. I was able to just sit down and relax as I cut the pieces out. Now my kids are helping stain and finish the projects. I recommend the title completely.

Easy to make, nice surprise gifts.
Very clever designs and the level of difficulty to build ranges from simple to medium complexity. The Panda turned out to be really cute. I stained the Labrador Retriever black; he looks just like my lab. The puzzle pieces were a bit loose fitting after cutting with the scroll saw, so I made small stands for them by routing 3/4" wide 3/16" deep slots in 3/4" by 2" wide stock, just long enough to hold and stabilize the base bases of each puzzle. This also made them easy to move, without falling apart.

Excellent Patterns
There are some pretty great puzzle patterns in this book. The only problem was that it was difficult to make copies while the pages were in the book. I had to cut the pages out to get them flat on the glass of the copy machine. I cut the left edge of the book on my scroll saw to free up all the pages from the binding. I then put the pattern pages inside sheet protectors to go inside a 3 ring binder.

Nice patterns
I have done a few of the patterns and found them easy , I was using 20mm pine but a couple of times the wood split down one of the grain lines in the wood

Just what I need!
I'm a beginner scroll sawer, so need guidance even on the obvious. This book gives it, with useful tips on tools, sanding and finishes. There are LOTS of patterns, but I've only just received the book so none tried yet.; I envisage I'll scan/copy the pattern page I'm intending to use and then follow the advice in the book about repositionable spray adhesive (I've tried celotape and glue but this sounds a better idea). This is an American book with obvious US references (Wall Mart etc) but this doesn't in any way detract from the usefulness. Even at this early stage I KNOW I'm going to find this book very useful.

there is an easy to follow step by step guide at the beginning. the plans go from basic to advanced. also there is a test piece so you can learn most of the techneques before you start. I have just started to use a scroll saw and have had no problem following them
