I then transfer it to a peat moss type cube and put that in the dwc. You don’t have to use the peat but it helps prevent your seed falling through the rocks. So long story short..approx an inch. **Q: It seems easy but where do you put the air stones? If the seedlings are over the water. What gets roots wet initially?** A: Air stones are placed at the bottom of the bucket. The bottom openings on the basket can be submerged when starting with a seedling. If the seedling is in rock wool, water level is touching the bottom of the basket and top spray the seedling for a week or until tap root is touching the water. Once roots grow the water level will be about 2-3 inches below the basket. About 3.25 gallons. I called the manufacturer with questions when I started. This was my second grow. The first was in an AeroGarden and came out pretty good. I used the AeroGarden because I had it available and because I knew nothing at all about hydroponics or growing anything. I do not even have house plants and never have. Nonetheless, I decided to move on to a more dedicated set up. There are a lot of kits available on Amazon. This one was a bit more expensive because of shipping, but in my opinion was well worth it. All of the required tubing and cut outs were there.
