OmniFuel Stove with ErgoPump & Fuel Bottle

I would like to believe everyone has a different purpose for buying a product, for me its my motorcycle expeditions. I will be writing this review from that perspective. Firstly, I rarely give any product 5 stars, and secondly, I have paid full price for the product (excl. the generic discount), including around $30 for intl. shipping.I was looking for a stove for my travels in South East Asia, mainly India, Nepal and Bhutan (and if possible Bangladesh). If available the food is generally inexpensive (except Nepal), however, its difficult for my stomach at times, and thats a big IF in the remote areas. I wanted something which is small, light, and burns anything. I researched the web for around 2 weeks, and ordered Primus Omnifuel, it meets all my requirements, has glorious reviews, and sounds like Optimus Prime (or is it just me?).I loved the idea that Primus sells a tested and ready to go set, complete with the wind screen, fuel bottle, service kit and carry bag. I have seen some other products where I would have to buy each separately, Dealing with the extra packaging would have increased my cost of shipping.Optimus (hence forth Primus Omnifuel, will be referred to as Optimus. its shorter, and just coz..hehe)...I was a little surprised (pi$$ed) to see a couple of blemishes on the stove when I opened it, but then i read the label, it said they had tested it for leaks and working condition,etc, it had the initial of the engineer who checked it. Now thats what i call commitment to quality. From "Surprised" to "wow", I went on going through the other stuff,The Optimus : I am not going to go through all the features coz by now you would have read most of them in other reviews and you should read the manual atleast once. This little stove has a couple of things i really like, the storage for nossles is neat, feels solid, is really small and versatile. I need it burn Deisel and kerosene most of the time, I anyways have to carry a throttle cleaner for my motorcycle, i think cleaning the soot wont be a problem, rest i guess i will have to figure on the road.The fuel pump : Its small and all metal, feels solid, as long as i dont drop it a 100 times, i am guessing it wont breakThe bottle : made of metal build to handle pressure. wont break easliy, though storing it out in the sun will be a problem. cannot store it in the bag vertically as it makes the rolling up bag a little cumbersome.The wind screen : made of aluminum foil, Primus sells a good wind screen but doesn't supply that with the package, have to buy it separately. The foil itself is very thin and the horizontal edges are sheared therefor a lil rough, take care while handling it coz its thin and you might get a cut. If you keep the foil as, the foil will break after a couple of uses, many experts suggest that you should roll it onto the Fuel bottle, and it works perfectly.The other foil, which I am going to throw : its supposed to act like a base plate of sorts but I think the legs of Optimus are sturdy enough, and it produces enough heat, i can deal with a lil in efficiency.The silicone lube : plastic tube, which has 5g of silicone lube, i wonder how long it will last.The multi tool : which has exactly 2 tools, just enough to be called a multi tool, I am sure it can be merged into a smaller tool, but then we could not call it multi tool.. heheThe Bag : its a well made bag with a pouch in the front, there are no instructions on how to efficiently pack the whole whole thing in the bag, and its huge compare to the product. but here is the best part, go to the Primus site and check for the "campfire utility sack", looks like its exactly the same thing, with a pouch in the front. the puch in the front was the only thing that made it a little difficult to roll it down more than 2 or 3 folds. i wish i could roll it down further to have nice snug fit for the bottle and the stove..It would be nice if the bag had a smaller pocket inside the pouch so that the multitiool and silicone lube could perfectly fit in it, also the location of the pouch can be a little lower.Other than that the bag looks water proof and may be you can carry water in it like Campfire Utility sack.Over all I like the product as of now, its real test will be on the field. I wrote this review over the one for OmniFuel uploaded 4 years ago, because a separate review was not made available.)I own all versions of OmniFuel since the first gen Omni with the flared burner housing. The Second gen comes with trimmed housing that holds the flame spreader with wire, the third gen that retains the flame spreader with a spring. The gen 4 Omni is titanium, and it has been in the market for a few years. Now it comes with the silent burner head. All are superb stoves. I stripped the gen 1 OmniFuel of its housing, and use the burner in Trangia Storm Cookers, 25 and 27. You can't beat this combo anywhere in the world.I was intreagued with the silent burner head, for my all other liquid, multi-fuel stoves (don't ask how many, I stopped counting long ago) have roarer heads. Omnilite Ti is compact, and I can see Primus Design Team really put their heads together to develop this one.I first connected OmniLite Ti to a four season canister, and it lit up without problem. A modest sized flame bloomed. Then I connected it to a fuel bottle to burn white gas. To my surprise, the flame did not shoot up, no matter how wide throttle was open. I suspected the jet was blocked somehow. I poked the jet with the wire jab included in the multitool a couple times, turned the valve on, and witnessed the fuel vapor shoot out. Replaced burner, and relit: a beautiful blue flame shot up, of course.I put on a 7 inch pot filled with about 1.3L of water (that's about half full of my pot) at 48F. It was breezy with occasional gusts. I could see the flame being pushed out from under the pot. The stop watch clocked 7.5 min. at rolling boil with the lid on. I guess it would have shortened the boil time significantly, if I was boiling only 1L in the windless condition.I did not change the default jet for white gas. The stove, however, functioned flawlessly with the default jet, .36mm (prime the burner really well). I suspect that, in below the freezing temp, I would probably have to install .32mm jet. Kerosene requires .25mm jet.Overall, I am quite happy with this setup. The silent burner treatment is a winner. One drawback is that it is susceptible to wind, so a windshield is needed. Roarer bucks wind better, although it is a little louder. Some folks report that at simmering flame, the silent burner underburns. At low flame output, the burner does get orange hot. This is the cause: the burner head is too hot for the gasified fuel, so that it combusts before it leaves the burner. I have not had underburns in the silent burner so far. It is not really a big deal: shut off and relight, and do not keep the flame too low--problem solved. You can hear the underburn, when it happens: it gets louder, and the whole burner head glows. Underburn heats the burner head, instead of the pot.I noticed that the seller's pricing of the OmniLite Ti with Silent Burner fluctuates from time to time, in the range of 170 to 225. Snag one when it is at the lowest. I sure did!

Revised after really giving this stove a chance... I gave this stove to a passing stranger on the trail while hiking this morning granted I had no breakfast or coffee because the stove is JUNK. I started backpacking in 1976 and have owned or own a lot of backpacking stoves and this one is absolutely without hesitation the worst stove I have ever owned. The pump is a work of art and thats really the only thing this stove does better than the MSR dragonfly. Simmer is ok nothing to write home about, the fuel connection is clunky and no matter how long I let it depressurize ( aka turn off) it leaks fuel when I connect and disconnect the hose. This stove is “pretty” no problems about the fit and finish but just can’t love this stove. I do like the jet storage and marking concept. Works well on canister fuel as long as you don’t want to really invert the canister, no real means to support the canister when inverted (MSR Wisperlite international ships with a canister stand). The storage bag is also clunky in use and I am not a fan of that either. Overall this is an “OK” stove in the same price range as the competitors, would I recommend this stove ? Not really ... Coin toss decision to buy this stove or the MSR wisperlite international. MSR has plastic pump and better overall usability, Omnifuel has a nice top of the line pump.. Depends on what is important to you but after using this stove and the total lack of reliability on my last two excursions I would say you have a better chance of this stove not performing well than you do making a simple cup of coffee in thirty degree weather. I would under no circumstances trust this stove to melt snow or provide a hot liquid in really cold weather... You will die before you can get this stove to properly perform as intended.Oh .. Almost forgot about the deformed bell housing that happened during the first burn, poor design if you ask me. I have 40 year old Optimus roarer burners that don’t have this issue, this stove is nothing but irritations.

This stove is amazing. Very durable. Very portable. The design is extremely well thought out. If my life were going to depend on a stove working, I'd take this stove. I had another high end stove from a different company which eventually started leaking fuel from the fuel line. I replaced it with this stove and immediately noticed that the plastic parts that failed on my last stove were built with metal parts on this primus omnifuel stove. The burner jets are incotperated into the frame, it comes with an extremely durable carry sack with detailed instructions sewen into it, every stove is hand tested before it is sent out, and someone even fell on my tiny stove (when it was cold thankfully) with all of their weight coming directly on it and it only had a few slight bends in the feet which i quickly reshaped back to their original position and it was like new again. To top it off, on my last camping trip I ran out of primus white fuel while cooking dinner, and no backup canisters were with me. Everyone was relieved when I could finish cooking the meal with spare gasoline as fuel after a quick nozzle change on my stove. And it could have been kerosine, deisel, or even jet fuel that finished the job. The omnifuel is extremely versatile. If you like to be prepared for whatever comes your way, are heavily dependent on a reliable stove, or just want optimal engineering and confidence in your equipment, this should be your stove. I expext it to last a lifetime.

Ignore the old review about stove deformation - Primus fixed that problem by installing a new (and much weaker) spring that does not pull on the flame spreader and deform the brass(?) when it heats up. Just to be safe, I even went ahead and stretched the spring out a bit myself to ensure that it put zero tension on the flame spreader, but retained it as it was designed to do.I have the original Omnifuel, which has served me VERY well for the past 7 years. Did I NEED a new stove? No, as my original Omni is still going super strong, but I'm a gear junkie, so when I saw this updated stove on super sale, I picked it up. I am very glad that I did. The simmer control has MOST DEFINITELY been improved over the original; so much so, that I was actually excited about how low the flame will go. Simmering at low temps will no longer be a problem. The legs all fold up in a much more compact and streamlined manner too, which makes storage a bit easier as well.Build quality is just as excellent as the original stove. I'm very familiar with the operation of this stove (pumping, priming, flame manipulation, etc.) and feel that it is definitely a step up from the original. For the price I paid, I am extremely happy. GREAT STOVE.

I spent a few hours checking out different offerings before I decided on the Primus omnifuel II stove.I Lit this up and within 5 minutes the brass burner cup was deformed where the flame spreader touches it.I emailed Primus and will update when I find out what they have to say about this.Seems like a poor design if it deforms on 1st use.If Primus say's it's normal,Ill return it and get an MSR.Update 8-08-17: After waiting a week for a response,I contacted Brunton USA(my fault for emailing Primus.se) via e-mail as they are the distributor for the US market and the support team let me know that it is a known issue for the stoves that have too tight of a spring on the flame spreader and that the old versions did not have this issue.The support team also told me they would be happy to help fix this issue.I let them know that I was interested in the fix and to let me know what we can do to make sure I have a stove that will last my lifetime.I will update when this issue is resolved.

Great stove! It is definitely multi purpose and multi fuel. With the proper adapters you can use the green coleman propane tanks with this stove. It does as advertised and boils water really fast and if not careful you just might burn the water. Haha. Down side of this stove is that it could have a better simmer flame. The pump and design of this stove is superior to MSR stoves. I own the XGK and would rather use this stove. I hope in tthe future Primus goes back to offering an all metal machined aluminum pump.
