This device and the associated Smoke Pencil Adapter Tip are better than the acidic smoke tubes we previously used, because the 'smoke' (mist) produced is must less irritating, almost none. But this gadget is really an odd design. It is hard to see the fluid level, and it is quite hard to remove unused and recondensed smoke liquid (because the spout on the bottle will not easily bend so that it can apply suction to remove fluid without allowing more fluid to enter. The trigger is awkward, and must be held at half-pull for several seconds to heat the liquid before a full pull starts smoke. Must be repeated each time after you let it off to stop smoke. Smoke will go all over without the associated adapter tip. The word clunky comes to mind. The manufacturer is a toy company and this feels like a toy. The adapter tip fits over the outlet of this device and has a tiny fan which pulls smoke from the puffer and directs it out the small nozzle. The adapter tip is built like a toy watergun, about the same cheap quality. The puffer feels a bit more substantial but not much. It all works only vertically but that isn't a major issue. I am not very impressed, HOWEVER, I would still purchase it over the acidic tubes previously used, not only because of a much better aerosol r.e. irritation, but also cost- this entire rig cost about what ten acid tubes cost, and this will go a lot further. I do wish I had bought this kit in the case, which is offered as a complete set -better deal and you get the case. And I wish the manufacturer would redesign a much better device for usability using the same principal. Also we have not used it nearly enough to comment on durability, but I am not very hopeful (I hope to be pleasantly surprised). I also don't know about storage durability-we won't be using it frequently, tried to remove all unused and re-condensed smoke fluid, but won't know for a while about ease of immediate reuse after storage.

Doesn’t do anything well; and makes an oily mess throughout. In order to get any smoke out of it, you have to to squeeze the handle so hard you can feel the cheap plastic case flex and distort in your hand. When the smoke does come out, its impossible to direct towards anything; it just spreads everywhere. The funnel caps only fit the fan attachment and the fan pushes the smoke to fast for tasks like leak or draft testing. Additionally, the smoke this thing generates only seams to last in the ambient air for a couple seconds; and wouldn’t be capable of tracing conduits or pipe runs for instance.

I work in HEPA filter certification.This is a handy little tool. I use a bigger generator (several thousand dollars) for rooms, large areas.But for smaller thimble connections, door seals, etc. -- this is great! The price is incredibly reasonable.I had an issue with mine, contacted the manufacturer, they quickly replied & resolved it.I very rarely post reviews, but for the price & the great customer service I had to.

We bought 2 of these recently. They generally work well but we had the bottom battery cover snap off on one of them after day 3. We have to hang a bright cord or lanyard on them otherwise they are easy to set down, forget and leave on the job. We've found they need to be stored in an upright position otherwise they'll leak. They do produce sufficient smoke for trouble shooting smaller air leaks but not for entire room applications.

I purchased a Smoke Pencil on line from Amazon. It arrived on time and in good shape. However it only worked for a short time and quit, I contacted the manufacture from thier web-site and they immediatly called me. I missed the phone call and they left a message: before even talking to me, they had express mailed a new unit with no concerns over getting the old one back or any other issues. I have used this product for sometime, but quickly replaced it for a traditional smoke pencil that uses fire. This instrument is bulky, uses lots of batteries, the liquid easily spills and leaves its surroundings oily, and it doesn't produce too much smoke to create a trail.It's basically a good concept, but not a reliable and simple design.

This smoke tester is great it works awesome and it's very affordable you can't find another product that comes close to it's performance in this price range. I looked at the squeeze bulbs that cost over 175.00$ and can be messy and doesn't have a constant stream of smoke.I would recommend this product to anyone who tests negative/positive pressure's IAQ for healthcare facilities,Fume hood testing,any kind of air migration testing.who should check this out? Air balancers, commissioning agents, Mechanical engineers, Building Facility engineers,HVAC service Techs.Dislike: this is not really a dislike but like all products there is room to improve and I would suggest if you buy this product you run a small bead of JB weld on the inner seam it appears to be hot glued together.

Works as advertised, creates a nice "airy" smoke for detecting leaks - but I'm using it for product shots in my video production. Gives a cool looking effect for some items.
