Great value, beautiful sound and looks.
I played a gig with a very experienced bass player this weekend. It was the first time we'd met, but after our first set, he couldn't help but comment on the sound of my snare drum. He was right, the drum is both punchy and beautifully resonant. The only change I have made from stock was to pop an Evans G2 batter head on it (I was looking for a genera dry, but they were out of stock at my local music shop). As it turns out, the G2 allows a little more ring and makes the drum sing. There is a natural sustain I can get out of this drum which is almost as if I have a reverb on it.The woodern hoops make side-stick playing sound absolutely gorgeous - better than any other snare I've played, by a country mile. Also, having 10 tuning lugs make the drum very nice to tune. The tuning lugs themselves are a finer thread than typical lugs, offering more subtle tuning too. Initially I was worried that heavy rimshots would damage the hoops, but they are showing no signs of damage after several gigs - they seem very hard wearing. As for looks, this maple drum is stunning. I feel like I am playing a drum worth three times the price and other drummers can't help but stare at my drum. I couldn't be happier with it.

The snare has MOJO
This snare drum was originally sold for $450 but they are now selling at a huge discount. The sound? It looks and sounds like a hand-made snare drum that should cost $850 or more. It’s that good. DW can manufacture them at a much lower cost but they don’t make them ‘cheaper’. They are made to precise machine specs and every tiny detail is flawless, just like a much more expensive drum. This 100% maple shell is made to an exact standard with a 30 degree bearing edge. It's also perfectly round, something vital to perfect tuning. The wood hoops are the same hoops that DW puts on snare drums that cost $1000. The cast tube lugs are no different than the ones you find on the more expensive drums. Strainer is strong and feels solid. Snares are 20 strands. But the ‘feel' of this drum tuned low and fat, or high and super responsive, is amazing. The sound, projection, response and overall ‘feel’ is what makes this a ridicules buy. I can’t stop playing it. It has a certain mojo that could change your life. It did for me.

PDP Maple snare w/ maple hoops Big Hit
Great drum for the price. Real keeper perfect for all music rock, jazz, blues and more. I changed the bottom head to a Remo hazy and left the stock pdp ambassader on top tuned a bit high on top head and great sound. I have a Mapex retrosonic maple/walnut mix that is dark but this drum pops nice and has a dark feel as well. The rims allow a nice crack on snare if playing blues accenting for ghost notes. Very pleased with this drum a must get to any collection of snare.
