REALLY NICE PRODUCT! I use this on my giant breed, double coated black dogs. The shampoo cleans the coat well, helps get the red out from sun exposure and pool swimming, plus it leaves the coat shiny and smelling nice too. I've ditched all my other shampoos for this one. I only wish I could buy it in the gallon size because the manufacturers don't recommend diluting it, so I can go through the half gallon pretty quickly.

I have a long haired black german shepherd. This shampoos works great to clean him but honestly I don't see it making him any blacker. I've tried leaving it on longer and lathering, but honestly? He comes out clean but same color. Any black that had been bleached by sun remains that black brown reddish shade. But it cleans well - I'd recommend their other shampoo which cleans even better and smells great.

I've been looking for a shampoo for my merle Great Dane for the past two years. I'd been looking for one that doesn't dry out her skin or leave her coat dull. I've tried at least 15 different ones and none of them have worked well until now. This one has been the best by far! It gives a blueish hue on my dog's coat helps get mask the reddish color she gets from time to time. While it didn't completely remove the red from the grey parts of her coat, it did enhance her black spots a ton. I suspect that over time with more baths she'll get less and less rusty in color. Over all it left her coat soft and incredibly shiny. But be warned it may color your skin and nails a light shade of blue if you don't use gloves or wash them right away.

This is a good product for black show dogs or pets too. However, it does not get out all the reddish tint from the sun. It did improve her overall coat color, but not everything. Just be aware of that when you use it.

Professional shampoo for black dogs. It’s the only thing I use on my standard poodles and it leaves a beautiful looking coat.

This is a pretty good shampoo. It gets my short hair GSD clean and not dried out, but that’s about it. I was really excited that it was formulated for black dogs. I had noticed that my dog had some red/lightened hair around her neck from the summer sun, but after multiple uses, I saw no difference. She was shiny and soft, but that was about it. I even tried leaving it on for 10 minutes to see if it would help with the tone, but nothing happened. The smell is meh for me. Smells of black licorice, something that I personally wouldn’t want to smell like, but that’s my personal taste. You have to be really good about rinsing it out, and wait until the water from the coat runs clear. You also have to be good about rinsing it off your own hands and shower walls, as it can make minor stains (that will come out , but is a pain to deal with). For the cost and effectiveness of toning the coat, it’s not worth it. Again, works well as a shampoo, but that’s about it.

I found this Chris Christensen Black on Black shampoo at a dog show many years ago, and have used it ever since on my black dogs. Other shampoos will turn a black coat "red." Not this product. Not only does it bring the color out, but it also brings out the shine and manageability. Chris also makes a Red on Red Shampoo for my Red Minpin, and it works equally well. I can't ever remember using a Chris product that wasn't top notch! I love their detangling and finishing spray. It works without adding a scent uncomfortable to the dog.
