Having received Tonma pruner had to take them for some test cuts and I'm pleased to say they met my expectations and then some. These were purchased to replace a previously ordered Corona 3180 which were found to be unsatisfactory.The Tonma pruners did come with a spare spring which is nice however, for to price they should include a spare blade.

Japanese “made in Japan” hand pruners, made with Japanese SK5 steel. Although they say “stainless steel” in the description, SK5 steel is not remotely stainless. It contains only a few percent chromium at most; stainless steel needs 12-13% minimum to be considered stainless. That being said, the quality of these is outstanding. Smooth, precise action; feel great in the hand; excellent one handed locking mechanism. They come sharp and cut very cleanly. The steel is also much much harder than typical carbon steel used in most mass market hand pruners like Fiskars, Corona, etc. Rockwell hardness of 59 HRC is unheard of for hand tools; most are usually in the range of 50-54 or softer. As a result these stay sharp for a very long time but will take somewhat more time to eventually resharpen. I’m so impressed with these that I purchased a spare set.

These cutters are made well ! Fit nicely in your hand. Cuts cleanly. Spring and lock are quality made. I recommend !

As expected, these are super sharp. They make pruning easy and one-handed, even for arthritic hands.Yes, the locking device releases if you squeeze the shears' handles, even a little. That may not be all bad and not worth knocking off one star.

I love the shears! They are awesome. I am giving this item 4 stars only because they are not available in a left -handed version. I'm left-handed and the grip is uncomfortable for me to hold. If you are a right-handed I think you would love them.

I am a career horticulturalist/landscape architect and have had many pairs of pruners over the years. These are honestly my favorites! Great price for pruners that will likely last you many years. As always you should clean and sanitize regularly for best results.

Customer service is outstanding I purchased these bypass pruners a year ago and I lost the screws that attached the handle to the pruners making them unusable, so I contacted the company in Japan through email and explained what had happened they immediately responded and informed me that new pruners were being shipped as a replacement even though amazon turned me down because of the extended period of time from purchase. I recommend as a professional tradesman that there product is excellent.
