It works! A little patience and a few tries will get it floating.
Often we are disappointed with products - just not what we expected. But it was the opposite for this - it is so cool! (of course, I'm into astronomy) Tips: to light the base there is switch underneath. To light the globe, there is a white dot pasted on base about 1/4" wide - just touch it to turn globe off and on (once you have it floating). To make it float: Try and try again. There is no trick to it, other than finding that perfect spot, dead center and about an inch or so above the base. Hold it gently with one hand on either side and slower lower it toward the base, gradually releasing it. Some times it takes me 10 tries, other times I get it on the first try. Don't be discouraged - just keep trying and you'll eventually get it floating.. It will revolve a bit on its own, but friction will eventually make it stop. I have placed a small USB fan on low speed about 8" behind it and directed toward the right edge of the globe. (It doesn't really matter which side, but the right side will make it turn the actual direction the earth turns) This will cause the globe to rotate and you can control the speed of the rotation by directing the fan further or closer at the edge, moving the fan further away or closer to the globe, or changing the speed of the fan. I have it turning about one revolution every 10 seconds. I also like to turn off the base light which enhances the floating effect. I leave in on for my "night light" and never get tired of watching it. Again, it does take a little practice and a few tries to get it floating, so place it just where you want it before balancing. Hope that helps. Be patient - it's worth the effort!

Beautiful, highly recommend if you love gadgets
The media could not be loaded. Beautiful!!!I can't stop looking at it. It's been running (Spinning) for 5 days now and never fell.It is spinning at around 1 revolution per 15sec. Not sure how long it will last, but I kept the box just in case.

Needs some improvements...
So I ended up returning this item...I love the concept and for the most part, it looked cool! The LED light was beautiful.I have a few complaints/suggestions to make it better:1) I wish it were a little bigger. For such a unique concept, it's a bit underwhelming when it's sitting out because the size impacts its "wow factor"2) it spins way too fast! It's tough to even see some of the countries/details on the globe because it rotates so quickly3) after a few people touched it/picked it up/etc, the magnetic part started to lose its "grip." Eventually, the glove wouldn't hit the "sweet spot" and stopped working all together.Like I said--love the concept...just needs a bit more work on some of these areas. If those were addressed, I would absolutely buy the product again!

Fascinating, fun, easy to set up... in spite of the directions
In the area of item quality, mine is beautiful and fully functional. It is floating serenely on the bookshelf in my study as I write this.Setting the thing up was silly easy, although, as one reviewer I saw noted, the instructions are a bit of a joke. Someone's translation from the Chinese leaves a lot to be desired. If you understand a bit about the dynamics of magnetic induction and closed loop fields though, it is fairly intuitive. The globe has a magnetic element in it, and the base develops a circle of counter fields. If you get out of the center, the sweet spot, the globe will attract. To make it work, First MAKE SURE THE BASE IS SITTING LEVEL. This cannot be overstated, otherwise it will never balance. With the base turned on, hold the globe with your fingertips and level the equator with respect to the surface of the base a couple of inches above the surface. You will sense the globe being pulled to the base. Center the axis of the globe over the surface of the base and slowly lower the globe. You will sense when you find the equilibrium point and the globe will float. When I set mine up it only took one try. Since then, it has been the same.As for appearance, family enjoy it, and it is a wonderful conversation piece. It is also something to focus on when you need to brood over a problem or idea. If you get one, I suspect you will find it much the same. If you get it for your kids, challenge them to learn the principles of magnetism and how this levitating globe works.

The levitation sounds neat, but it is actually wholely frustrating
I really liked the idea of this when I bought it, and I have the perfect spot on a desk to put it. But it's incredibly frustrating...not just to set up, but if you have pets or children, I really wouldn't recommend it since the slightest movement or even a breeze can knock it out of its magnetic orbit and send it crashing into the base making a terrible noise (not to mention it can't be good for the magnets or the other materials). To set the globe into its magnetic orbit, it is so finicky, this alone was enough to want to return it. But once I found out how easily it is for it to get knocked out of its orbit (it takes almost nothing) I knew I couldn't keep it. For these reasons I cannot recommend this item.

Difficult but looks cool
The base feels really cheap and flimsy and also the bottom is not actually a button so don’t press on it hard or you will break the cheaply made base cover lol. Our cover was already loose and not actually secured to the base so had to jam it into the base and put a bit of tape. It was also extremely difficult to get it to float..took us well over an hour. Once it was all set up it’s really cool and beautiful especially at night with the lights. Overall a cool gift and looks nice.
