SAM COOKE-BEST OF

With his smooth, velvet vocals, Sam Cooke stands on his own as one of the all time great singer-songwriters, influencing a number of other aspiring artist in the music business, especially Otis Redding, Bobby Womack, Johnny Taylor... the great Cooke was capable of singing almost any style of music in his own distinctive way, mostly soul. This R.C.A. best of recording tells all, the classic ballads, "Summertime", "You Send Me", "Bring It On Home", featuring other Cooke favorites, "Chain Gang", "Cupid", "A Wonderful World", "Twisting The Night Away", classic Sam Cooke material that will stand the test of time. The only problem with this compilation, it's missing the hits, "Change Is Gonna Come", "Shake", "Another Saturday Night". This was the first Sam Cooke album for me, it also became my favorite. The remastering is excellent, a giant step from the first released 1990 cd.

I currently have 268 Rock & Roll oldies cd's. In my opinion, you can't find better music, than that of the 50's & 60's era. All the greats, Drifters, Platters, Sam Cooke, Everly Brothers, Ventures, Peter, Paul & Mary, Kingston Trio, Ricky Nelson, Lean Rimes, Diana Krall, and many country western songs, just to name just a few. Many of these older CD's, I have found on Amazon. others I purchased over the years myself, some from the Apple iTunes store. These oldies have excellent lyrics, true quality songs, songs that really touched me in their lyrics, and meaning. Totally unlike Rap and Heavy Metal, like saturates the media today. ( Artists ? ) of today are more concerned with recognition and monetary concerns, other than producing a quality product.

I DIDN'T GET THE ONE SONG I WANTED, TOUCH THE HEM OF HIS GARMENT.I AM HURT, I COULD HAVE SWORN IT WAS LISTED WITH THE REST OF OF THOSE GREAT SONGS.

After listening to the mellow voice of Sam Cooke, which I remember from AM radio as a child in the late 1950's, I can say he is one of the true forerunners of what we know as Soul Music. Songs like You Send Me, Chain Gang, Wonderful World, Cupid and others lead me to think of Al Green and his very mellow soulful ballads of the '70's. Cooke had too short of a life for us to appreciate his talents. I recommend The Best of Sam Cooke to those who those who enjoy suave, relaxing music. If you do, this collection should be a treat.

Sound quality is in top. This is a great compilation album from 1962 with a few additional tracks. And wow he is a good singer!
