Originally written some 5000 years ago by the sage Vyasadeva, this modern translatation into English was literally the life's work of His Divine Grace A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Translated from the Sanskrit with full explanations as an act of love for his own guru and teacher Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Goswami Maharaj ,it is the most authoritative version of the great text in existence the modern world. It's stories, and the philosophy contained within have captivated great minds throughout time, and are as fresh today as when they were first spoken by the ancient sages themselves. This book in particular describes the various incarnations of Vishnu since the dawn of time, and those still expected to come in the future. Of all the collections of spiritual teachings found in Vedic literature, Srimad-Bhagavatam is considered the topmost. Vedic literature is sometimes said to be a “desire tree,” a tree that can yield whatever one might desire, and of that tree the Srimad-Bhagavatam is said to be the ripe and most relishable fruit. Srimad-Bhagavatam is sometimes said to begin where the Bhagavad-gita leaves off, since it goes even further into the nature of reality and the relationship between all beings and the Absolute. This is the first book of an 18 vol set, in 12 canto's. The first canto ,part 1 contains all the secrets of spiritual life, it is the king of knowledge, the cream of all literature, because it reveals the nature of the self, the soul and the identity of the supreme personality, Krsna. This Bhagavata Purana is said to be eternal, and is written in the ancient sanskrit language, translated word by word into English, and then a full translation of each verse (sloka). That is followed by a commentary from the translator and author, drawing on all the leading teachers of Vedanta over thousands of years, from all spiritual traditions of what is collectively known as Hinduism. Beautifully illustrated, this gem of a book, may well be the most profound thing you will ever read , until you then decide to buy the complete set of 12 cantos, in 18 volumes ! Then any book includeing this is a must read. AC Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada explains in very azing way. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent *by J***I on 10 June 2017* Excellent book and condition. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Story of the Fortunate One *by M***L on 7 December 2005* I bough the whole set of Srimad Bhagavatam containing 18.000 verses and consisting of 12 books also called cantos. Started reading this 1st Canto which is on sale here at Amazon a year or so ago. Its an amazing book. I suggest you read Bhagavad Gita As-It-Is first then begin to read this. Its like the next level up and therefore should be approached systematically. If anyone is lucky enough to own this book you will know what I mean. It is a brilliant story that has been brought to the West by AC Swami Bhaktivedânta Prabhupâda who undertook the daring task of enlightening the materialist westerners as well as the advanced philosophers and theologians, in order to help them to overcome the perils and loneliness of impersonalism and the philosophy of emptiness. Read and be Happy. ## Frequently Bought Together - Srimad Bhagavatam: First Canto "Creation"(Chapters 1-7) - The Science of Self-Realization - Krsna: The Supreme Personality of Godhead --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.jp/products/179993955-srimad-bhagavatam-canto-1-pt-1](https://www.desertcart.jp/products/179993955-srimad-bhagavatam-canto-1-pt-1) --- *Product available on Desertcart Japan* *Store origin: JP* *Last updated: 2026-10-15*
