Avatar The Last Airbender - Book 1 Water, Vol. 5

This finished my entire collection of ATLA, having watched it since the first episode came out, I've loved it, as my family has. In the 5th volume, they go to an air temple, meet the new inhabitants, & fight off the fire nation. Then they go to the Northern water tribe to learn water ending from a master. The master refuses to teach Katara water ending due to that she's a girl, and through her standing up & challenging him, she learns from him & quickly advances through the class. The fire nation attacks again, with the intention to kill the moon spirit. Iroh & zuko steal away on the main ship after an attempt on zukos life. Zuko grabs aang while he's in the spirit world and takes him to a cave, where they attempt to wait out a blizzard. Sokka, Katara, & Sokkas first girlfriend who turns into the moon, go find them. Upon returning to where the moon & ocean spirit are, the admiral kills the moon spirit, rendering the waterbenders defenseless. Aang soon goes into the avatar state, defeating the fire nation, only stopping when noticing the moon has returned to normal. The princess gave up her life, since the moon gave her life, and bam that's how Sokkas first girlfriend turned into the moon.

The Avatar saga is the greatest modern cinematic mythic creation since the Star Wars films. Drawing on eastern and other world mythic traditions, the saga is broken into "books", each containing 20 or so episodes. This DVD is the last volume of 4 episodes from the first book - "water".Each Avatar episode deals with the struggles of it's main characters as they undertake challenging quests that test their strengths and weaknesses. The quests are not purely episodic though. There are multiple strata of quests attached to multiple character based plot lines in each episode. Some quests are episodic in length, others are book length (20 episodes), and then there is the grand quest that spans the entire series. Like a fable, each episode has a moral of some sort, and it is a moral fortitude delivered with the exactitude of the samurai warrior. It is rare to find any kids show that imparts the old wisdom these days, and whoever writes the scripts for this show seems to have access to an endless spring of it. Despite it's martial arts elements, the Avatar involves no violent bodily contact - although in all fairness it is a little more vigorous than Tai-Chi. This serious approach to problem solving is tempered with many lighter moments however, and the Avatar balances all it's elements in a most satisfactory way.

If there ever was a gut blasting, action packed season finale then this, my friend is it. from The beutiful scenery of the northern water tribe, to the splendor of the northern air temple to the final showdown between Zhao and Zuko. this DvD has it all. The first season goes out with a bang here because there is tons of emotions and the promise of the next season is super. in this DVD the episodes are:1. The Northern Air temple- Aang hears stories of airbendrs around the temple, and goes to check it out.2. The Waterbending Master- The crew finally gets to the northern tribe and Aang/katara lear waterbebding(Zuko almost dies in pirate attack)Zhao A3. siege of the North part 1- Zhao attacks the north tribe, Aang tries to contact the spirits to help him and Zuko finally captures Aang.4. siege of the north part 2- Zhoa has a crazy evil plan to kill... AND Aang escapes from Zuko and uses his new powers to...This DVD sets the 2cnd season up perfectly, but you should probably watch all previous DVD before watching. ALRIGHT DUDES!!see you next season!PEACE OUT!

Our family loves this series. We watched it for the first time when my youngest son was 7. Even his uncle and his grandmother get absorbed in it. The characters are easy to relate to and the episodes are exciting enough to keep everyone's attention. Good lessons to learn in every episode camouflaged so the kids don't realize they are learning. Teaches connectivity of all things and respect for the elements and the Earth. The evolution of the main characters is beautiful, especially how they learn to work together. This was the last DVD we needed to complete the series. Best if watched in order but not necessary. Our family had watched the series without these four episodes three times through. We watched this DVD and are now starting the series over for a fourth time. I don't feel that I can separate these four episodes from the others in the series because elements of past episodes are continued and new elements are introduced that continue into later episodes.

First of all, I love animations but one day I saw my husband watching the Avatar; it looked like it was really good so I went into another room and start watching it myself and fell in love with the Avatar. I think I have recorded all of them. While on the Amazon site one day, I looked it up and when I found them that truly made me happy. I will continue ordering until I have all the dvds. This is one of my absolute favorite animations. It has a great storyline with great action; I love these dvds and if you watch them, you, too, will fall in love.

Seriously, this show is unbelievable. This volume contains what is essentially a "meh" filler episode (made more watchable by a cameo appearance by Rene Auberjournois)followed by a three-episode arc that closes out the first season spectacularly. I show this program to anime fans all the time, and I have yet to find any person of any age who watched it and didn't love it. If you've never seen the show, though, you might want to go with the first season box set. It's worth it.

Great series!

Loved it. As soon as I got it, I tore open the package, put the dvd into my new dvd holder and through the case and cover away. I know. I am such a waste and greedy person.

the compete collection is great

this is the region 2 release which comes from the netherlands, the only dutch language i can find on this is the cardboard slip case which goes on the outside, everything else is in english even the dvds inside the case.
