A good place to start discovering interesting artists
Do you know when you look at a piece of art and wonder yourself “what the heck was he/she - the artist - thinking?", I often do. And in this book i've found the answers as Rober Hirsch told me what he thinks about several selected piece of art and immediately throws in a mini-interview with the artist. And it does it almost 45 times with 45 different artists (i felt a bit of shame as only one of them was familiar - Dan Burkholder): Robert Heinecken, Darryl Curran, Todd Walker, Nathan Lyons and Peter Bunnell, Jerry N. Uelsmann, Duane Michals, Douglas D. Prince, John Wood and Laurie Snyder, Thomas Barrow, Robert W. Fichter, Harold Jones, Betty Hahn, Les Krims, Clarissa T. Sligh, Tatana Kellner, Keith A. Smith, Scott McCarney, Bea Nettles, William Larson, Catherine Jansen, Martha Madigan, Stephen Marc, Robert Flynt, David Lebe, Judith Golden, Joyce Neimanas, Joel-Peter Witkin, Rick Dingus, Holly Roberts, Brian Taylor, Ted Orland, Dan Burkholder, Jerry Spagnoli, Maggie Taylor, Mike and Doug Starn, Stephen Berkman, Vik Muniz, Wayne Martin Belger, John Metoyer, Dinh Q. Lê, Dan Estabrook, Chris McCaw, Binh Danh, Curtis Mann and Matthew Brandt. So, if you are looking to familiarize yourself with some interesting artists and their mixed media, this is a good place to start. And then you can continue with the titles presented in Bibliography.Besides the content, what i want to mention is that the excellent design Alex Lazarou choose to made (totally different from some titles Focal Press published lately) - it made reading a joy again! Thank you!

Highly recommended reading for all artists
Fascinating book covering image manipulation mostly before the age of PhotoShop. From painting on developed photographs to chemical treatment of photographs to printing on fabrics and other materials to painting with light, Peter Hirsch covers 51 artist/photographers with examples of their work and interviews with most of the artists. Highly recommended reading for all artists, especially those interested in mixed media.
