Metropolis is a must watch movie, a blockbuster and a blow up your mind movie. It's creator is a genius. A movie to see alone or with all the family to enjoy it.

Loved It
This is my first introduction to anime as an adult, and I was not disappointed. It pays a nice homage to Fritz Lang's Metropolis, but yet it is its own story that stands on its own.

This is such an amazing movie from my childhood. When I saw it was on Amazon I just had to buy it. It came very well packaged and is accurate to the product description.

Classic Anime Feature Film (Remastered Blu-ray Edition)
For those of you looking for a remastered edition of classic anime feature, this is the one you want (see photo). Like many, I purchased the first blu-ray release which is evidently a BDR (very poor quality). So if you're looking for the real McCoy, this would be the version you want. I took a chance on it, considering it was only 9.99. Super glad I did, I'm sure I paid much more for the original release which looks like garbage in comparison.

Metropolis: There are moments when it works well and rates high. While the symbolism and social commentary are generally cliche', at times the story elements and character's do make a connection that draws one in. Metropolis is basically an opera in an animated medium. With innocence,, tragic characters and plain old villains Metropolis is a classic tale set in a dystopian mega city that on the surface seems wondrous but beneath the surface a darker truth lies. Literally. The hand work part of the animation and backgrounds are quite good and at time striking but the CG aspects of the production change the flavor to lesser experience. CG technology when this was produced in not equal to its state 20 years hence. That said its always about the story and the characters. Do we care about them? That's what makes or breaks any movie, book or anime. Character design is stylized to this film and few characters looks very Disney influenced. Too much so for an anime export from the Land of the Rising Sun. Though this may be a comment by the film maker and if so, its glaring. A jazz flavored soundtrack attempts to create an Art Deco period feeling with a " world of tomorrow" vibe. But even in a man made utopia human nature can't be overcome and greed , desire and injustice prevail in transforming the promise. Metropolis tells this story in a setting that was inspired and borrowed from the classic movie of from the early 20th century. This would make a great TV anime series as it would benefit the story by developing the plot and characters over many episodes rather than pacing it to conform to a feature film time limit. Metropolis suffers from this I think. Further development would have elevated it to a higher level. In the end however, its an anime presentation of striking visuals and if you want to see a scifi flick with fantastic world building, adventurous action, perilous moments this is an enjoyable watch.

La película llegó a tiempo y en buen estado. Está película es ya un clásico de la animación, su historia es genial, un gran homenaje a la película original. Viene hablada con inglés y subtítulos en inglés.

Perfect Release
Yes, I live in the United States. And yes, we are getting a local Blu-ray release here later this year. However, this release easily trumps that tenfold; it's mainly going to be poor due to it just being a burned BD-R disc, which means it won't last as long, among other things. It also doesn't get the deluxe steelbook treatment. The steel case has a gorgeous metallic sheen to it on the front, and is accented with a simple plain black backing. Not only that, but the Blu-ray plays perfectly in my US PS4 (and from other reports, in any Region A player) without a hitch! And it's already out, so there's no need to wait for a sub-par release of a movie that deserves so much more. This release also includes the post-credits image that the previous Region 1 DVD set so foolishly left out; the story is left unfinished without it, so having it here is perfection. Perfect release for any fan of the movie no matter where you live; be it in the UK, the US, or even on the moon. Buy this now before the Steelbook version is out of print! You won't regret it!

Dicotamy
What a strange contrast between ultra-real looking environments with ultra-stylized Disney like characters who are going around trying to destroy the world and kill one another. Its like Bamby meets Reservoir Dogs (almost). I still like it, but mainly because of the feel of the city that the story takes place in. The feel of the layers and the different people that live in the different sections makes the city seem possible. It feels real, it looks lived in, the plot is great! The only thing that wrecks the whole thing is the look of the people. They are too fake looking, too childish. If they did a remake with some better looking characters it would be almost perfect!Still worth a look if you are a fan of the original movie by the same name and/or a fan of anime.
