What side for this pad should be used? I just recieved mine today. I've read mixed reviews , involving headaches and stomach issues if the wrong side

You should use the satiny, side with the floral design on it. It is just like the top of most mattresses.

Is this okay for children

Yes it is. Hurts none helps all. Please do read disclaimer about people with pacemakers, insulin pumps, medical devices should not use it. Thanks.
