Smashing!
I have not been a young adult for a long while now, but I decided to read this book. I was pleasantly surprised by how well-written it was.To say that Smasher is a SciFi novel does not do it justice. Sure, there are SciFi tropes, time travel, mind control, robots (or are there?), etc., but there are also some memorable characters and character development as well. The main character is Charlie who seems like a regular 12 year-old peasant boy living in the 16th century with his grandfather. Charlie is beleaguered, taunted by bullies, until a mysterious girl named Geneva shows up. Geneva seems to be able to do magical things, and Charlie is intrigued. Then she tells him she needs his help in the 21st Century. Will he come with her?If he said no, this would be the shortest novel ever. Of course he says yes, and they “Smash” into the year 2042, where Charlie has a lot of catching up to do, more than 500 years of catching up!The book moves along at a nice pace, the characters are nicely fleshed out and the technical aspects of a future 30 years from now seem very plausible and easily understandable. We learn, as Charlie does, with Geneva as his guide.I would highly recommend this book to any young adult, and some older adults as well.A “Smashing” debut novel from a promising new author.

A fascinating and touching story for the young and the young-at-heart
Charlie, a young, somewhat insecure boy, who is frequently bullied, finds himself on a quest to save not only his friends and family but the entire future of the world. During his many adventures, he has to face his fears and discovers that he has a lot more courage, spunk, and stamina than he ever thought possible. A fascinating page turner, with some deep insights into human nature, lots of fun science and technology, Smasher is a book for the young and the young-at-heart. Highly recommended!

I bought this for my 10 year old son. He couldn't get into it, but I loved it. Will try with him in a couple years.

Unforgettable tale!
I really enjoyed reading this. I couldn't put it down until I practically fell down, asleep. Charlie is such a great main character and he truly fits this story. Great job!

Riveting
From the first page, I was captivated. I couldn't put the book down.... Scott's detail and descriptions kept me using my imagination throughout the book. My only complaint was it ended too quickly and left me wanting to read more. I would highly recommend this book for all ages.

A smashing, adventurous blend of mythology and futuristic tech!
This book is engaging from the very first page of frog-eating suspense all of the way through to the twisting cyber climax. I don't want to give away too much of the plot, but the author does a great job of taking old world magic and blending it seemlessly with futuristic geek technology. A fun summer read for both boys and girls...recommended for ages 10-16 (earlier if precocious and older siblings or adults who wants to stay relevant to the younger generation). I'm hoping for a sequel.
