Review: Not supposed to be everlasting seal! - I love these canisters however I see lots of people complaining that the vacuum seal doesn’t last very long. Well this could be for two reasons. First, these are not supposed to be left for deep storage to maintain a perfect seal for years at a time. It will by nature just slowly bleed if left for 8+ months. Instead these are for fresh coffee, tea, spices that you will somewhat regularly be opening and resealing monthly, weekly, or daily. I personally have had one maintain a very good seal for 4 months before I needed to open it. However, the second reason I think people are having failures after 2-3 days or less is for another preventable reason. If you have ever washed these and dried them off with paper towels or cloth dish towels the tackiness of the rubber seal becomes imparted with micro-lint. You need to make sure the seal can air dry and I also find very lightly conditioning the rubber/ with odorless cooking oil. Don’t leave an oil residue but allow the seal to moisten then dab off the remaining oil. I’ve never had problems since.

It keeps beans fresh, looks nice, and the vacuum system has worked well for me. I’m honestly not sure what everyone is talking about when it comes to the container losing its seal. Yes, it will eventually unseal, but the more you twist the top and build the vacuum, the longer it stays sealed. I normally open mine every morning, sometimes twice a day, so it’s really not an issue for normal use. I also tested it just to see how long it would actually hold a seal after the green indicator came up. With a normal amount of twisting, mine stayed sealed for around 2–3 days. I went a little further and twisted it more to build a stronger vacuum, and I was able to get it to stay sealed for over a week with minimal effort. I didn’t bother testing beyond that because, realistically, I’m going to need the coffee at some point. My only real complaints are pretty minor. I wish the lid was easier to clean, especially when using more aromatic or flavored beans, and I also wish Fellow offered an even larger option for people who like to keep more coffee on hand. The 1.2-liter size is good, but I could definitely make use of something bigger. Otherwise, it’s well built, works as intended, looks good on the counter, and does a great job keeping beans fresh. It’s definitely not something you absolutely need, but it’s a really nice addition to a coffee setup if you want to store your beans properly. Solid pickup and an easy 5/5 for me.

I love these canisters however I see lots of people complaining that the vacuum seal doesn’t last very long. Well this could be for two reasons. I bought this in Februrary of this year and it worked quite well and I was impressed. It takes a bit of work to get the vaccuum seal, but it was working well. However now, it is pretty much useless. The vaccuum is not even lasting 24 hours. I seal my coffee beans n this canister but after three months of usage, the seal is just not functional and the vaccuum is lost. I would not recommend this product given this experience. This canister came highly reviewed in some review I read and it was the reason for the purchase. It is a nice canister and well constructed otherwise. The external surface is very smooth however and it is round. Hence it can be a bit slippery and not easy to grip - espaecially if on a high shelf. Having some grippy (non sticky and long lasting) material on the outside surface would help.
