It requires phantom power of a range between 9 volts and 52 volts. It will work with 48 volts as this is within the range it's designed to operate with.

Q: Is this the current model or a discontinued model?

Their latest C414s, as far as I know, have nine electronically switchable polar patterns. There are two variations, the C414XLS and the C414XLII. The XLII has a slight presence peak for vocals. I have a matched pair of C414XLS. All I'll ever need.

Q: Anyone out there using the c214 to record wooden flutes? (native american, shakuhachi, quena, irish, etc). how's it sound?

I haven’t used it to record wooden flutes, but I have used it to record saxophone. I think it would record these kinds of instruments just fine. I would recommend not close miking - give the sound room to breathe. 24” is a good estimate.
