Excellent Absorption, Adequate Soundproofing
I used this foam recently in our school sound studio for their main door (budget did not permit a replacement door). I purchased it expecting it to only stop reflection against the hard door, but it went above and beyond expectations. The foam comes with adhesive already on the product–wonderful after 3 days of caulking Auralex's foam–which led to easy installation. The results were immediate. I under-ordered the number of panels (only half of the door is covered), but after only a quarter of door was covered, the little children's voices disappear, and the sound reflection was gone. I recommend this to anyone with a troublesome door, window or corner.I've had this for about a week, and I couldn't be happier. Compared with our Auralex Designer paneling, it fits right in, with a much cheaper price.Pros:- Thick & reinforced- Durable against wear & tear- Virtually zero reflection- Much more soundproofing then expected- Ridiculously cheap!Cons:- Front not as black as interior (uglier grey)- Product image misleading: Front is rubbery, "sticky" material with subtle ridges/waves.- Prone to junk, lint/hair, etc. sticking to front panel. Do not use in messy areas.

Not exactly a "sonic barrier" - more like sonic dampener
I purchased this to make a layer over my bedroom door with the hope that it would keep noise out (my housemates stay up later than me, and I'm a light sleeper). It's not a barrier, for certain, but it is mildly helpful. I think it does a better job of dampening noise in my room and keeping it from getting out than it does for keeping noise from getting in. Perhaps I should have applied it to the outside of my door and not the inside, but it's too late now. In short, place it where you want it to absorb the noise – it does't "block," it "absorbs."

Somewhat helpful with noisy air return
My home AC system has a noisy air return that transmits loud white noise throughout the nearby rooms. The AC contractor said the noise is normal for the blower, which has only one speed. So I decided to line the return with this acoustic foam product "to control unwanted sound reflections and absorb extraneous acoustic energy," as the description says. The foam does not silence the noise, not even close. But it does bring the noise level down enough that it's not as much of a problem as before. That's less than I hoped for, but it's still an improvement. The self-adhesive feature is very helpful as the adherence is strong and appears unaffected by water (as when my AC condensate drain overflowed and flooded the air return).

Solid sound absorption at a reasonable price.
This foam worked well for me when I used them within a small space. I put them up in my makeshift recording booth (my closet) and they worked well. When I tried putting them up on the walls of my room, they didn't work as well. You'll do yourself a great favor not to use these foam rectangles as acoustic panels as they do NOT absorb as much sound as panels would. If you're looking to put these in a small, stand-up vocal booth, this foam will work perfectly. If you need treat the walls of a large room to prevent echos, you'll have to buy a LOT of these. Go with acoustic panels instead.Would I recommend these? As long as you're recording in a small space, then yes.

Nothing A Piece Of Cardboard Or Cloth Can't Do
I bought 6 panels of this foam to surround the enclosure of a particularly load server. This foam does indeed dampen the sound coming from the server by about 10 % - 20 % however so does regular cloth or cardboard. I think this is just cheapo foam marketed as sound proofing material... Definitely not worth the additional cost.

Sorta works
I bought this to try and keep out noise from the apartment next door to mine that was coming through the bathroom vent. It reduces the high frequencies somewhat, but I found that a folded microfiber towel keeps out more noise and is cheaper.

Good stuff.
Very durable. It comes with an adhesive film on one side, which I didn't realize and didn't really need. I ended up doubling the thickness by sticking two of these together, then installed tightly between [the sides of] my refrigerator and the walls. It really cut down on my refrigerator noise. (I didn't realize that the new, energy-star refrigerators are also much louder than the old refrigerators of the past!)
