Tiffen 49mm Skylight 1-A Filter

The filter itself is okay, though it was old enough to have haze from indoor pollutants. Luckily it cleaned up with Zeiss Lens Cleaning wipe. No factory sealing and major scuffing on case indicates that someone did a switch. I don't care for being sold an item listed as new, and then receiving something different. Sadly, this is a frequent complaint from customers at Amazon.

I am very happy with the Tiffen filter on my Sony A7II. The filter provides insurance for my lens, is very clear so it doesn't cut light much for shots, gives clear skies a beautiful blue and adds a nice blue to even stormy cloud cover (elephant pictures).

I ordered this for use, more to protect my lens than anything else. It is a quality made filter, up to Tiffen's good standards. The main problem is the lens cap for my 18-135 Pentax lens will not stay on the filter. Apparently the front of the ring where another filter would screw in is just a little too short and the lens cap doesn't get a good bite on the threads. So if you're using the 18-135 lens on a Pentax, you won't be able to keep the lens cap on it with this filter in place. That brought it down from five stars to three stars for me.

Perfect protection for lens, plus get better photos. Over the last 5-10 years these have saved our camera's lens three times. I won't say who dropped the camera, but each time this filter broke and the lens was saved - wow huge save! It is worth using this just to keep your lens protected, but on top of that it does improve the pics. Perfect filter for an always on, forget about it solution.

A lens filter is worth its cost for nothing more than protecting your optics. Tiffen makes a good quality pro-sumer class filters. They claim all are optical grade glass. I haven't had any problems with mine and results are consistent and predictable.

Good value. Was surprised how dirty the filter was out of the box

I've purchased many filters made by Tiffen and I've only had an issue with one of my CP filters which did have too many ghosts. Out of all their filters I enjoy the Sky 1-A the most. I use them mainly for portraiture or candids, and mainly outdoor. Indoors I usually switch to a UV simply for protection. For the price you can't beat these filters. For 20 or 30 more sure you can probably find heavier duty glass. I also own some higher end filters, but that isn't always necessary.

The effect on my pictures is negligible -- hardly a difference, if any. Bought it to protect the lens, though -- and it does do that. I've found it impossible to COMPLETELY clean up this baby -- which was, relatively speaking, very dirty when I got it. In fact, I thought it was all scratched up, but most of the stuff came off -- with a lot of effort and time. At the same time, I bought a dollar-something generic filter to have as a back up -- it fully cleaned up in no time. Seems crisper to the naked eye. But, spooked by the price, I'm leaving that as the back up. Though it does look better. It's a Japan made UV filter. This one is a US made sky1 -- for what it's worth.

This filter does its job but when it arrived it was unfortunately a self assemble filter as the glass and fitting ring were loose in the box.

Los filtros Tiffen son de la mejor calidad, los he usado por años en varios de mis lentes y son de gran utilidad no solo por filtrar rayos UV, sino porque protegen al lente de polvo y rayaduras. Son inprescindibles para el buen estado de los lentes. Siempre están puestos y se evita la pérdida de las tapas de los mismos.

Well, I should have listened to others on here but I’m clearly not that smart. I thought since Amazon was selling this it would be fine. It’s clearly a used filter...It works fine. Quite dusty. But I’m not happy to have purchased something supposedly new to find out it was used.

This is a quality lens filter, in a size not used so much now.I bougt it for a project to do with a vintage lens.
