I have had this mounting plate for a few weeks now and I have to give it a thumbs up so far. When I originally got it and mounted it to my Nikon D610, I just screwed it on, connected my Black Rapid and then noticed it interfered with the battery cover. I was initially a little disappointed, but when I slung my strap over my shoulder, I realized that I would rather have the plate rotated around so the camera hung the other way. When I did this, it hung in a position easy to grab, and the plate no longer interfered with the battery cover. With a couple of weeks in, this feels stable and secure, and allows me to keep my tripod mounting plate attached to my camera along with the strap, which is something Black Rapid didn't offer.

Strong hinge plate!
This hinge mount works well. The large screw head makes tightening and loosening a breeze. One problem I've found is the threading on the screw head will not receive any of my plate screws for a tripod or monopod. I can't have the hinge mounted if I want to use my monopod or tripod. Not sure what the intention of the threaded screw head is if you can't use it to mount a plate to it.

Excellent choice, best strap connector I have tried.
The plate is excellent, and after using it for a about 6 weeks, I feel confident reviewing the item. The base is solidly built, and connects to the camera firmly. Because a strap connects to the base on the side, it acts like a lever, and if you have not tightly screwed the base on it will spin a little over time. But, if connected tightly, this is not an issue. Mounting to a tripod is simple, and works well. One item that may annoy some folks, is on my my camera, a Canon 60D, the plate is about 2 mm too long to open the battery door without loosening the plate and spinning it to open the door. Very minor issue, Only worth mentioning because it might bother some folks, but, since you don't need to remove the plate, it just adds a few seconds to the process. My main issue is that the strap, which I did not purchase for this reason, is a neoprene like material. This just gets sweaty and uncomfortable in my opinion. I generally avoid it. I wish there was a cotton strap option, and will have to rig up my own. I plan on taking a normal strap, and trying to adapt it to be used like the specially designed Indigo Blue strap. This is not as simple at it sounds, and will involve some sewing. The strap is a little different than a normal strap, Rather than have two ends that tie on, it is a closed loop. The plate then can freely slide on the strap without hindrance, with the cushioned/wider part of the strap staying on your shoulder. Tying a knot in a normal strap works, but it not optimal. The knot will catch on the carabiner when it slides along you strap. I would definitely give this item 5 stars if a cotton strap had been available. Personal preference on this one.All in all, I strongly recommend this strap plate. It hangs securely on your side when walking. And avoids a lot of the pitfalls of a front hanging strap. It's easy to pick up a small child and carry them while wearing it. It also works well when wearing a backpack. One recommendation, Use a locking carabiner to connect. I believe, from the pictures, that if you buy the included strap, it does come with a locking carabiner.

Indigo, This is a Two-thumbs Up Winner!
I love this product! I've looked at and used a variety of mounting plates, thinking that it would be "the one" and I wouldn't have to find another. Each time, however, I've run up against obstacles because they will not work with my particular strap/carry system, which is a DIY that I rigged for my trip to Ireland and Wales. This one, however, makes all the difference because of how the plate screw is designed: it's a stepped screw that allows me to attach a narrow strap to an inner ring without hampering the main purpose of the screw, which is to secure it safely to a tripod. Thus, I'm not concerned about the screw not being properly tightened on the tripod mount. I also love the quality: definitely not cheap, which so many mounting plates I've tried are. And the adjustable hinge is really what sold me on this. For me, it serves as a double backup system for my strap/carry option, so that I never lose control of the camera itself. Thanks for such a great, well-designed product!

Too heavy for what little value add it has
A heavy little gizmo that performs a minuscule added characteristic. When your pro system already weighs too much, this little thing adds too much weight for what benefit it adds.

While not a perfect solution, it definitely provides a workable one for my proprietary Dolica tripod mount. It's grasp plate only closes to 42mm wide while the Arca Style standard is 38mm wide. Had to return the Black Rapid Arca style plate as it is 38mm wide and my tripod can't hold on to it.Depending how you mount this plate, it can cover the battery door. Not sure it that is a mistake in the picture or not but I am fine with turning the mount around so the hinge hangs out 1" pass the left side of the camera. I think that works better when I have the Black Rapid strap attached and want to sit my camera on a flat surface. Nice that the hinge folds flat so you can do so.The one thing I didn't care for was that the rubber pieces on my Dolica plate are on either side of the Indigo Marble mounting screw. While I don't currently have a long heavy telephoto lens for my camera, I can see not being able to mount the camera sideways on my tripod and keeping the camera in a horizontal position as there isn't enough grip between with the mounting screw and tripod mount to hold the camera/lens weight. I went to the local hardware store and found a workable solution for me. Bought a 1/16"thick 1/4" x 1/14" Neoprene Rubber fender washer for $.59 that fits between the mounting screw and Dolica mounting plate. Doesn't budge now. If you look carefully at the attached camera picture, you can see the washer between the mounting screw and my tripod mount plate.
