Best Diaper Pail - No Proprietary Refills Required!
As a new parent, the Ubbi Steel Diaper Pail has been one of my best baby gear purchases. After researching multiple diaper pails, I'm so glad I chose this one. No Special Refills - Thank God! This is THE biggest selling point for me. Unlike other popular diaper pails that force you to buy their expensive proprietary refill cartridges, the Ubbi uses any standard 13-gallon trash bag. This saves so much money in the long run! I was shocked when I learned how much those special refills cost for other brands - it's essentially a subscription tax on parents. With the Ubbi, I can buy whatever trash bags are on sale or in bulk, and I'm not locked into one brand's ecosystem. This feature alone makes it worth every penny. Odor Control: The steel construction and rubber seals do an excellent job containing odors. Even with multiple dirty diapers sitting in there, I don't smell anything unless I open the lid. The sliding lid mechanism creates a tight seal that really works. Our nursery stays fresh, which is especially important since we spend so much time in there. Steel Construction: The powder-coated steel is sturdy and doesn't absorb odors like plastic pails do. It feels substantial and well-built - not like a cheap plastic bin that will crack or retain smells over time. I can tell this will last through multiple children. Easy to Use: The sliding lid is intuitive and can be operated with one hand, which is crucial when you're holding a squirming baby. You don't need to step on a pedal or wrestle with a complicated mechanism. Just slide it open, drop the diaper in, and slide it closed. Child Lock: The child-proof lock on the sliding lid is a great safety feature. It's easy enough for adults to operate but prevents curious toddlers from getting into it. Capacity: Holds plenty of diapers before needing to be emptied. With a newborn, we empty it every 2-3 days, which is very reasonable. Easy to Clean: The steel interior wipes down easily and doesn't retain stains or smells. Much better than plastic in this regard. Design: The modern, sleek design looks good in the nursery. It doesn't scream "diaper pail" and comes in various colors to match your décor. Cost-Effectiveness: While the upfront cost is higher than some plastic pails, the savings on bags more than makes up for it. Not being forced to buy expensive refill cartridges means this pays for itself quickly. Plus, the durability means you won't need to replace it. Minor Considerations: - It's heavier than plastic pails due to the steel construction, but that also makes it more stable - The initial investment is higher, but absolutely worth it for the long-term savings Bottom Line: The Ubbi Steel Diaper Pail is the smart choice for parents who don't want to be locked into buying expensive proprietary refills. It's well-designed, effective at odor control, durable, and will save you money over time. Highly recommend this to any expecting or new parent!

Still the Best Diaper Pail Out There – Just Know You’ll Empty It More Often Over Time
We’ve been using the Ubbi Steel Diaper Pail since our daughter was a newborn—she’s now 16 months old. Around 14 months, we actually bought a second one and replaced our original. Not because it broke, but because we hoped a fresh start might help with odor control now that she’s eating solids and having more frequent bowel movements. What I’ve come to realize is that it’s not the diaper pail—it’s just the reality of toddler diapers. When she was younger, we could go 2-3 days without emptying it. Now, we really need to empty it daily or every other day to keep odors in check. That’s just part of the phase. Even with that, the Ubbi is excellent. The steel construction does a much better job of locking in odors compared to plastic pails we’ve tried, and the fact that you can use regular kitchen trash bags is a huge plus—no overpriced refill bags required. I’ve also started putting a small baking soda air freshener at the bottom of the pail, and that’s helped a bit too. After about a year of use with the first pail, I did notice a couple of subtle dents and a small rust mark on the exterior, but nothing that affected performance. Clearly, that didn’t stop me from buying another one! If you’re looking for a diaper pail that’s efficient, easy to use, and looks nice in the nursery, this one is still my go-to.

2nd time mom : this is a must have!
If you’re deciding between this and the diaper genie, CHOOSE THIS. You can use any bag for this (we use kitchen garbage bags). When it’s closed there’s no smell and it’s so easy to change out the bag for. For a dirty diaper container, the design is pretty minimal and nice. The quality is heavier and nice. I guess it’s easier to use a foot pedal than this top design when you’re holding a dirty diaper but honestly that barely matters when you look at everything else. For my second child, this pail is way better than the diaper genie we had for the first child.

Perfect gift for baby showers.
Got this for a baby shower gift. It was a hit! She can use any type of garbage bag for it and not have to use specific brands. Easy to use, traps in odors so no stinky smells, good value, great size, sturdy, and the color is very neutral. Perfect gift.

Great Looking & Functional – But Not Without Flaws
After two weeks of use, I can confidently say the Ubbi stainless steel diaper pail does exactly what it promises. The biggest standout feature—and what truly sets it apart from most others—is that it works with regular kitchen trash bags. No more being locked into overpriced, proprietary refills. That alone makes it a winner in my book. In fact, the ability to use your own bags can help offset the higher upfront price of the pail over time. Another big plus is the design. It's compact, sleek, and comes in tons of color options. Ours looks great in the nursery, and we don’t feel the need to hide it away in a bathroom. Performance-wise, it holds in odors very well when used properly, which is critical with a newborn in the house. That said, there are a few trade-offs. The opening at the top is quite small, so you have to roll or fold diapers up tightly to get them in cleanly. The overall size could also be larger—we find our one-month-old fills it up in about 5–6 days, which isn’t quite enough to make it to the weekly trash pickup. Once full, removing the trash bag can be tricky. It gets snug inside, and there’s definitely a risk of tearing the bag during removal—though to be fair, that’s likely a common issue across diaper pails. Also, they recommend not using water or cleaning products to clean, which seems unrealistic if a mess happens—wiping it down alone may not be enough. Another notable issue is securing the trash bag. The inner ring that holds the bag in place is the same small size as the opening, so the large trash bag opening tends to pop out as diapers accumulate. I solved this by tying a knot in the bag underside the ring, but it’s a bit of a workaround. Finally, I’ve noticed other reviews mentioning the plastic components can break over time, which does make me question long-term durability. Still, for the convenience, looks, odor control, and long-term savings on bags, this is one of the better diaper pails out there.

Great! Contains smell well
I love this diaper pale. Really user friendly and you’re not spending money on specific trash bags you can just use what you have. Of course this is not an odor eliminating trash can so when you open it you will get smacked in the face w a stench but it contains the smell perfectly when shut. And it has a lock function on it for when you have a curious toddler running around.

Very nice quality.
Very nice quality. A regular trash bag fits fine. has a locking top. Small slide in the top is a very nice feature and functions great. Came fully assembled. Nice sleek look. Holds in bad smells unless opened.

Worth the purchase!
I really enjoyed using this pail so far. I liked that the lid seals out the smell and the quality is sturdy and not like cheap plastic. Other pails have that step on latch to open the pail, this one doesn't but for me it's worth it because it can lock to where when my baby becomes a toddler she won't be able to get into the trash and make a whole mess! To me it's worth the trade off.
