I have yet to figure out the perfect ratio of drop height : drop number. Only about one in three eggs gets cracked sufficiently. I bought this thinking it would solve the problem of me having to run to wash my hands after breaking every single egg while making a recipe (which can get quite annoying) and also the problem of egg getting all over the counter. Only occasionally does this solve these problems. The cut isn't always clean and I end up getting egg on my fingers anyway. Sometimes I drop the ball one too many times and egg spills onto the egg holder. Sometimes the top of the eggshell gets stuck in the cracker, and I pour the egg out into the bowl, and suddenly the top becomes unstuck and falls in the bowl. Whatever happens, there's an 80% chance I'm getting my hands dirty anyway (which is my biggest pet peeve in doing anything). When it actually works it's great, it's just not reliable. It is kinda fun though, the whole process and the thrill of wondering if this time it will actually work properly. But honestly? It's probably not worth the money. Doesn't do a great job on hard-boiled eggs either.

Nothing is an easy as 'the commercial' but over all this DOES actually work. Your break Lines are not always PERFECT. It takes a bit of practice. We first saw this on our trip to Germany and wondered...I would say- a novelty purchase more than a need..but I'm happy I have it.

Rusting between "stainless steel base and ball"? Does not open egg as advertised over half of the time. Save your money and don't buy this one.

It took a few times but we finally got it. (see pics) Once we got the hang of it we could crack eggs so much easier. We had guests the weekend we got this so we were planning an egg casserole for breakfast. It meant we were going to break 2 dozen eggs. We figured it was a wonderful time for us to try it. We tried holding the egg in our hand and then we tried the little cup that came with the egg cracker. We liked using the little cup best, seemed to make a more consistent drop. Since we had so many to do and we had to know we also tried just leaving the egg in the carton. My sister and i volunteers to cook when the fire house has a community breakfast and last time we cooked over 5000 eggs, (see pics) that's a lot of cracking and a lot of broken shells that can get in the mix. If this works it would save us so much time and hassle. We just had to try. It worked you just have to make sure the egg is turned properly. My sister did a move -place-drop, move-place-drop, and we were done and no egg shells to dig out either.This is a gadget every kitchen needs to have. It is a great little gadget and will save so much time and hassle we are going to get one for the firehouse.This will make a great gift for the kitchen. Making it great for a house warming gift, wedding gift or first apartment. Definitely a must have in the kitchen. My granddaughter was here over the weekend and we wanted to try something new and fun, so we decided to try this amazing Creative Eggshell Opener! Wow, we had one “egg” of a time too! First we decided what we were having for breakfast and we chose my wonderful Zucchini Pancakes for our delicious meal. We made a couple extra batches to add to the freezer, we didn’t want to waste any eggs we were trying out on the egg topper. We had so much fun. My granddaughter drew all the faces on the eggs, filled them up with dirt and added a few of my herbs for decorations! These really look cut sitting on my deck. My husband and I have decided to use this topper when we start new seeds. This is really useful and awesome product. I do really having a hard time opening eggs. The device is kinda tricky but as soon as you get how to use it. It will be much more easy and helpful to you. The mechanism is simplicity itself: the base has a somewhat sharp edge and sits on the egg. Raise the heavy metal ball to the top and release it. Voila- the egg is scored perfectly. Do not hold the egg or the cutting base because your hand will absorb the blow - I think that's what the person who complained about it not working must have done. I've used it for hard boiled eggs as well and it works just as well. It's definitely a niche market but, unlike a lot of kitchen gadgets I love hard boiled egg specially when I made it with my favorite dish. The only thing stopping me doing it is because it takes time to open and crack a hard boiled egg and most of the time i wasnt make my hard boiled egg open perfectly. Now i have the egg cutter i can make my dishes over and over again and i can make my hard boiled eggs without hesitations.
