What is a male tank, or an M2" tank? My home heating oil tank is about 800 litre, about 1.2m high, would this gauge be suitable please?

I’d say no - I bought one of these assuming universal suitability and fit etc etc, but these are calibrated for a much taller tank; it will show change up or down but gauge movements will not be especially stark. I would suggest searching for a gauge with ‘1m’ or ‘3’’ in the description - there are plenty of them on this site. As to male / m2 tank, Google is your friend, I’m afraid I couldn’t answer without googling it myself.
