Ultimate Play-Along Drum Trax Virgil Donati: Jam with 17 Virgil Donati Tracks, Book & 2 CDs

This is a fantastic book. It's got the book and 2 cds (which play with Virgil Donatai at a fast and slow tempo with the band; and then just the band so you as the drummer replaces Virgil) The score is wonderfully laid out with the really fine details of Virgil's work. Incredible music for those learning or at a professional level. Keep in mind, it's for those who are experienced in drum knowledge-- as it looks complex!

This book is awesome. each song is explained by parts, and the concepts around the composition are clear. The book is an "easy" guide to play and think the drumset like VD.

The quality is perfect. Couldn't be any happier being able to study this material! Especially because Virgil himself sold out on this and his other book!

Awsome transcription of Donati's super drumming. A great study. The play-a-long CD however, gets muddy around the last couple of songs.

As of today (Sep 8, 2010) this is the ONLY Kiss BASS play-along to exist, so if for many Kiss enthusiasts it will be worth buying in the 2nd hand market.The songs on this play along are:- Black Diamond- Detroit Rock City- Love Gun- Rock and Roll All Nite- Strutter- Watchin' YouThe song line up is the same as the guitar play-along published by Warner Brothers, which is also now out of print.Each song is presented in tab and standard notation. Following each song is a nice printed lesson which explains some of Gene's technique and theory.The CD included has a demonstration track for each track where the bass is clearly audible, following each track their is a play-along track which features no bass. There are no vocals on any track.This book and CD set are excellent with one exception, "Detroit Rock City." The bass transcription for the song features some WRONG NOTES! Plain and simple there are errors in this transcription. If you own another transcription of this song I suggest you use it to play along. An additional problem is that the 3:35 single edit of the song is used, the unedited version of the song is over five minuets long.The version of, "Rock and Roll All Nite" is the one found on the, "Alive" album, which is good because this is the superior version.I like this product but the buyer must be aware of the problems with, "Detroit Rock City."

Easy to understand transcription of virgil's time twisting grooves. Definitely worth buying. All fans of Virgil need to get this without a shadow of doubt.

While it's highly unlikely that most drummers will achieve Donati's technical ability as showcased in this package, this is a great way to get inside his head and finally understand some of his advanced techniques.The song selection is excellent and the transcriptions are accurate and detailed. Even better, the dual CDs offer mixes with and without drums. For the more complex parts, there are slowed down and repeated "minus-drums" mixes available (for example, on a complex section where Virgil applies some advanced metric modulation and beat displacement techniques in OTV's "Native Metal" tune).All in all highly recommended for intermediate to advanced drummers who want to learn more about Virgil's unique style and thinking. This is challenging material that will increase your chops and musicality.Kevin
