It's all about trusting God - not your personal willpower - and cleaning house!
I became a vegan in 1996 when I read Jane Brody's nutrition book (from the early 1980s), which taught me that I could eat as much complex carbs as I wanted, as long as I watched my fat intake. I know today that that was a mistake, but such was the mainstream view of basic nutrition in the 1980s and 1990s (minimize fat, maximize whole grains).A few years ago, I went further in the Ann Wigmore/Steve Meyerowitz direction, doing a lot of sprouting and juicing and trying to eat more raw. Yet through all this, I could never shake my cravings for bread and pasta, as well as all forms of sugar. I didn't know what to do about these cravings or how to finally get these things out of my diet. I was desperate and feeling hopelessly condemned to having to succumb to these cravings whenever I had access to sugar, carbs, and various junk foods in whatever form.I was so happy and relieved, then, to discover the Healthy Living series about a month ago, when, after an especially heavy post-Easter chocolate binge that lasted about a week, I realized I finally had to do something serious about my addiction to sugar and carbohydrates.Neal's faith-based approach to sugar and carb dependency immediately resonated with my experience in recovery from other substance addictions, where I turned my will and my life over to the care of God, who has brought so many blessings into my life ever since. I never encountered a health or diet book that stated so directly and unequivocally, as Neal does, that I need to rely on God's power to make this lifestyle change, because, left to my own devices, I am basically powerless over sugar and carbs.Thank you Susan Neal for this powerful, inspiring, and hopeful message!

Helpful explanations of negative impacts of genetically modified and processed foods and strategy for cleaning and fueling your body for optimal performance. Not Wholesome and Faith Based
This is a book that contains a lot of good information but the claims on Christianity don't fit in my opinion. There are some scriptures thrown around with an obsessive amount of research and food intake even to the counting of grams of sugar. The book is full of self and other promotions. Alarming enough to me the author plainly states that she had to limit her intake of alcohol to vodka.

JUST WHAT I NEEDED!
Helped me jump-start an over-all healthy dietary program for eliminating gluten, dairy, and sugar and also losing some pounds! Easy to follow instructions!

If you want a life change not a diet
I felt so much more educated on the food of today after reading this book. I love the bible verses that are incorporated in each section. It really made me realize that I had never given God the chance to give me victory in this area of me life. I have now been following this plan for 6 weeks, and I can't believe that I was able to stop eating sugar. I am a major sugar-holic, and never thought this day would come. Thank you Susan!
