The curved straw means that my son doesn't have take off his chin guard or helmet when he needs to take a drink during practice. They've held up well in the dishwasher, the straws are heavy duty enough to survive my chew-on-everything child, and they hold a lot of water, while still fitting into cup holders and his backpack side pocket. The little cap on the straw is complete rubbish. The thing strap broke after just one use, they also slide off super easily and are so tiny they you lose them immediately. And without that little cap, water will spill out unless you're extra careful to always position the bottle upright. And if you have ever been to football practices/games you'll know that often times eater breaks are short and the players need to throw their bottles over to the sideline.
