The Airfix Book of Scale Modelling Paperback – May 3, 2011

Just recently got back into scale models after 38+ years! This Airfix book does a fantastic job explaining a lot of the basics as well as providing some great history of scale modeling as well. This is the first book I've added to my new Scale Model Library and proud to have it!

This book is a great addition to any plastic modellers library.I think its an essential tool for those just beginning the hobby,or someone who has been away and getting back into it.I always come away with something I can improve on in the basics,alsoto try an new (to me) technique in future builds.....Thank You Airfix!!

Coming back to the hobby after decades, this is a great read to refresh concepts. I also liked very much the initial chapters with history.

I read the paperback version from a library and loved this book. It has comprehensive guide on assembling, painting and fixing decals, and a brief history of scale modeling.However, as it is often the case, the Kindle version has small images and it's not that easy to jump to the pages to compare the steps. I would recommend to buy the paperback version elsewhere.

Shame he got the description of the sprue and gate the wrong way round. The sprue feeds the runner which enters the part through the gate. I may be a bit picky here but lots of people will read this and be misinformed. I having been in injection moulding for 30 years. Otherwise a very nice book for the beginner in the hobby.

A lovely book that explains the history of Airfix models and the art work that went with it. This was the main selling point when I young, the clear plastic bag that showed you exactly what you were getting. Then came the boxes with the same art work, always waiting for the weekend to arrive so I could go to the local model shop with my mates and spend what seemed like hours trying to decide what model to make that week.

This is an excellent book for somebody returning to modelling, in my case after a gap of about 30yrs, or somebody just starting out. During my absence things have moved on a great deal and this little book puts things into perspective both on the kits and resources available and the skills needed. It is not aiming at the experienced modeller but purely and squarely at somebody hoping to develop their skills. The section on the history of Airfix brought back many happy memories. As my skills develop I may well purchase a more advanced book but for the time being this is more than adequate.

I purchased this book when I was making my way back into the world of scale modelling. Even now a few years on and with a lot more experience and a lot more books, I still like to look back at this one. Perfect for the beginner or someone returning to modelling after a long period away.
