An Armchair General's Dream
A really great game to play. The rules are fairly straightforward thus eliminating the learning curve one might need to get the game mechanics down. However, like chess, even though the rules/mechanics are fairly easy, the actual strategy and tactics to employ is the challenging part, and this is the real fun of playing games like this.I used to play the Avalon Hill board games back in the 70's and find this to be an updated version of games of this kind. There are 26 scenarios in Panzer Corps from Poland to Stalingrad to D-Day, providing a lot of variety. I also like all of the additional scenarios you can integrate in the game, all the expansions, etc. All in all, a super game that will really test you.

Like Ronald B
Like Ronald B., I wanted to really like the game, but it it came on 1 CD and about a dozen "decompression" errors. I was able to access the library (though a few vehicle .png failed to open due to decompression errors mentioned) but I was never able to launch a mission due to some software error. Online support consists of Slitherine forum moderators asking you to uninstall and install repeatedly, so I guess my quest for a turn based war game will resume.Thankfully I only paid $20 bucks.

Glory for the Vaterland!
I've seem some reviews were people are have problems running the game or installing it. I just installed it and it is running fine for me. I have Windows 10. It did take a bit for the install wizard to open. I went into my cd drive and clicked setup. Now onto glory for the Vaterland!

Doesn't Work-
This game is a scam as it won't install on your computer even if you buy a hard copy on disc! After reading the very favorable reviews, I was looking forward to playing this type of strategy game as I did years ago.Unfortunately, while following the installation instructions, over a dozen error messages popped up concerning files not opening or "decompressing" with no remedy offered other then to retry or ignore. The retries of course didn't work and to ignore files left the finished installation without a playing board or pieces. When I tried the companies support system, it was made clear they had no direct telephone contact and I had to sign up for their "membership". This proved to be a joke, designed to sell me more of their products and it referred me to a forum to scroll through looking for nonexistent answers.I even tried reinstalling the game on my new computer but I ended up with the same results. Although the instruction with this software claims it is compatible with Windows 7 or 8, I doubt that is true. I tried this antiqued game on an older laptop that uses Windows XP but still exceeds all the games requirements and it didn't work. I was able to scrub this software clean from both computers. Fortunately I bought the game from Amazon, not the software company and after registering my complaint about Slitherine,Ltd, I was able to return this software.

Armor forward
Not a bad game but panzer general light. Half the play on scenarios, but better equipment. Still easy play.

Son of Panzer General
A great game and the long awaited offspring of the classic Panzer General game. The differences between the two games are the product of cleaning up and trimming some of the fat from the original, with almost all of them improving the overall feel and gameplay. One example is an 88mm AA unit being able to swap between the Anti-Aircraft and Anti-Tank roles within the battle, rather than being two separate unit choices, which always seemed kind of odd to me anyway.Transport is smoothly dealt with too, with units equipped with vehicles automatically mounting them if trying to move more than a certain amount. Artillery and tactical bombing are slightly reduced in effectiveness, their role being that of supports to ground assaults, rather than the super-weapons they could become in the older game, especially later on with over-sized veteran units. This is largely offset by the new flexibility that allows units to move then attack, or attack then move, within its turn. They can even do one, then activate another unit and then go back to the original unit to finish its turn. This allows a lot more choice in how you plan and execute your turns, enabling you to react to the results easier and get the most from your formations. The inclusion of battle honours for your successful veteran units is a great addition too, with units gaining decorations for exceptional actions and winning certain bonuses which last for the rest of the campaign.Upgrading units is also cheaper and easier too, with only a slight cost payable if upgrading to only a slightly more effective unit. Upgrading and reinforcing are both able to be done at the deployment stage too, which is sensible and rewards quick completion of objectives in battles, rather than the old method of meandering about towards the end of a battle, trying to milk points on the map whilst reinforcing understrength units. There are welcome new units available too, such as very heavy artillery (including armoured trains) and panzer grenadiers but there is only one category of Anti-Aircraft ground unit, which again is a sensible move. Bridging engineers are no longer the invincible combat monsters they once were, being simply bridging units (oddly enough) that are vital in certain battles including major rivers (which can't be crossed by ordinary units).Aircraft are no longer able to block enemy air units in either, which was an obvious flaw in the older game. No longer can you fill the sky with metal and stop that Spitfire from scuttling off to reinforce at a friendly airfield! All in all, the feel of Panzer Corps is the same as Panzer General but the upgrade changes are almost all positive, clearing up some of the grey areas and question marks of the older game. Some of the maps looked to be cleaned up and missing some of the peripheral towns and backwater areas, which makes navigating the battlefield and keeping track of all your units a little easier. One omission, however, is not so pleasing, which reduces my score from 5 stars to 4. There are no North Africa battles at all, these presumably being included in some of the expansion discs. It's a shame because those were probably my favourites battles in Panzer General.

Good game which loses it's way
Strange game. Started playing the campaign and things went fine. Well thought out, it's really a board game where the enemy and battle calculations are handled for you and it really makes you think about your tactics. But.... as the campaign got into the 1945 Eastern Front suddenly my heavy tanks could not damage enemy heavy tanks, but my mediums could. Replacements dried up or were supplied in part only, full strength units surrendered after one attack, flak couldn't touch aircraft, artillery had no effect, enemy infantry could destroy my heavy tanks but could not be damaged in return, my infantry were very weak. All the things I had learnt about how the combat results table worked vanished. The scenario only allocated enough purchase points for 2/3 of the forces I could use anyway. The enemy units combat results were stellar. I'm mystified. There are 5 difficulty levels and I played on the 2nd weakest level so I could learn the game. The game developers obviously know their subject but give the impression they don't at all. Panthers can't hurt an Su-100 or KV-1 but can damage a IS-2? Tiger IIs are weak? German infantry have no strength? Very odd.

world has moved on?
Ok, first time around I had Panzer General 1+2, Allied General, Pacific General and Fantasy General which were very enjoyable for their era (PG2 was superb so played with a lot of expanded battles etc).Wasn't sure what I was expecting from the updated game, but something shiny and new and as exciting and innovative as the original series..surely....?Well, what I ended up with came across as a mixture of PG1 (the maps) and PG2 (graphics), but very little changed (in an obvious manner) in the rest of the game. Good enough to dust off the memories of great times spent on those games but not enough to re-ignite the interest. Not wasted money, but not my monies worth either (like going back to a favourite pub from your youth - nice to do, but the world has moved on).

Reminds me of the good old Panzer General
Over a decade ago I played Panzer General for the PC and enjoyed the tactical element of being the Wehrmacht during WWII and taking on the allies.I am pleased to say that Panzercorps is in everyway as good as Panzer General and very enjoyable. The game starts at the beginning of WWII and the you play as the Wehrmacht army through all the major compaigns, Netherlands, France, Greece, Russia etc.Depending on how well you do in each mission depends on the course of the war and your next mission. This approach means replay playability is there as you test yourself each time trying to improve your performance during each mission. The graphics are not fantastic but not bad either and this game will easily run on a PC or laptop which have the basic graphics card. The game is easy to pick up and self explanatory and very addictive as you approach each mission with units which have been upgraded and promoted from the outset of hostilities.A very good game for all you armchair generals.

Good WW2 strategy game
A decent enough turned based strategy game, but not quite the wow factor I was expecting. The tutorials take you gently through the games rules, but I found it slightly under powered. I cannot help but compare it to the vastly different Company of Heroes, which is far more immersive. Nonetheless, it still offers an enjoyable game and is well worth a look if WW2 strategy games are up your street.
