second in series
Good solid mystery with a true crime author killed in a manner similar to the unsolved murder she wrote about. Nice growth in characters. Published in 2006 the book has held up well though the lack of multi media references clearly dates the story.

Enjoyable
Penelope has another author in her store and guess what? She ends up dead, only this time not in the store. Penelope decides, along with Jack, that she needs to solve the murder so none of her friends are railroaded like she almost was last book. So she starts sleuthing again and getting in trouble.I like Penelope and Jack. There are some twists in her relationship with Jack that I really liked. He is training her and she is getting to understand his 1940's lingo. I like how Jack pushes Penelope, not only with the sleuthing but also with loosening up with her son. I like the townspeople that Penelope has gathered around her. I also am enjoying some of the romances that are in the beginning stages. Her in-laws are jerks and I'm glad see stood up to them.I am looking forward to the rest of the series.

The Ghost and the Dead Deb
Book two of the Haunted Bookshop Mysteries is a great page turner. I lost a good deal of sleep needing to find out who the murderer was. Also I really like the historical mystery story inserts at the beginning of each chapter. The only book I have read is The Great Gatsby. I would really love to read some of the other titles.

Fun, quick read -- good series!
I've read a number of the Haunted Bookshop Mysteries and this book was up to the usual high standards. Pen and her personal PI ghost, Jack (a former cop and PI who haunts the bookstore) solve a mystery focusing on the elite, rich, and invincible young people. There are two mysteries in this book: one, the death of a "tell all" exploit of the murder of a young, wealthy, deb and the other one of Jack's old cases, from the 1940s. Just like the classic book, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, (also a wonderful classic movie)I believe that Jack and Pen not feel (can a ghost feel?) repsect for eachother, but love.

An Adult Investigative Love Story
With all of the quirky elements you would expect of a ghost story without the scare or silliness. Except among the living. I really enjoyed this one. Our heroine can't do it alone and has a reliable group of friends she can count on. Including her ghost!

Very enjoyable.
I've read the first two books of this series and have really enjoyed them. If you're a fan of light mysteries you will enjoy them too.

A good follow up
A nice 2nd outing for Mrs McClure and her resident ghost, and in this 2nd volume they figure out a way he can leave the premises - allowing for more interest in future books.
