In a perfect world the handle would be slightly bigger. Its not awkward or hard to use all.

Is this machine washable?

I haven't ever machine washed it. I just wipe it down with water immediately after use while the splatters are still wet.

How big is it across?

I don't have measurement but big enough to cover a dinner plate.

Does this product accommodate bowls?

Yes, it can accomodate soup/cereal bowls. Because of the divet in the middle of the cover, you just have to be sure that the bowl is short enough so that the food is not in contact with the cover. Bowls 3" and higher are too tall and the cover will actually sit on the rims of the bowl.
