This stuff is a real cost saver in that it conveniently (and cheaply) restores water softener performance.

After an annual cleaning of the brine tank, the softener media was sanitizer and all was well. After 8 month on municipal water, my family noticed a smell of wet dog after mopping the floors. We don't own a dog. After exploring several possiblities including the water heater, we discovered the smell was coming from the water softener. After much research my husband discover this product along was another product from the same company. We used both per the instructions shown on the Pro-Products website & we're happy to report no more wet dog smell. Further, my husband plans to add whole house carbon filtration in front of our softener. Multiple softener professionals have told us clorine in municipal water can prematurely foul water softener media. Leading to the system needing a complete overhaul.

A little expensive and hope it comes with larger discount package.

My daughter's water softener is old, and it wasn't properly softening water anymore. "Dad, what should I do?" I tried the Softener Mate product for her to stave off an expensive purchase. The first dose might have been a little too strong, as foamy gunk started coming out her faucets. (I guess "might have" is an understatement...) Anyway, after some greater volume of water went through the system, the water is clear and the softener is working just fine. Clearly the product cleansed the interior workings of the water softener so that it now is fully functional. We now use a light dose in the salt bin to disperse automatically, keeping the unit working properly. Fully satisfied!

Long story short - it worked to remove smell and bad taste from water.I live in an area that is notorious for hard water. I had my water softener turned to the max and was blowing through softener salt. My water had the "slippery" feel of soft water, but the water still had an unpleasant smell, and a taste best described as gravel. Finally it struck me to use some cleaner in the water softener. I opted with this cleaner due to the price and Prime convenience. After the first application I tasted my water and thought it was definitely improved. Thinking perhaps this was just having false hope, I then did a load of laundry, and much to my delight there was no foul smell. Ran a second application just to really hit it hard, and I can certainly smell a difference.

This product was recommended by the guy who serviced our water softener where we used to live. Now I keep it on hand and do the maintenance myself.What I do is pour a bag of salt into the salt tank, sprinkle some of this on top, add another bag of salt, sprinkle more of this on top, etc. As the system regenerates and goes through salt, it gets treated by this product that’s layered between bags of salt. It’s such an easy way to make sure the system is treated regularly without spending much time!

Perfect product to use to clean up a softener easy to administer

The instruction on the bottle says first application 1 1/2 cups in 1/2 gallon of water in the brine well. Done! (Note the instruction on Amazon page says 1 cup) . Run through a recharge cycle. Done. Awful smell and taste afterward. Ok so maybe it is working? Run another recharge. Still bad. Running water both hot and cold now. Plan to try and call the manufacturer if it stays this bad.Hard to judge if softener has improved since the water coming out is unusable , not because it is hard, but because it seems contaminated....UPDATE: called the company on the 800 number on the bottle this AM and a very pleasant and knowledgeable rep spent a good 15+ mins on the phone with me discussing my problem. Basically, our softener may be too far gone for this product. The chlorine of 6 years has taken its toll on our resin bed it appears. I agree with the discussion, was looking for a miracle in a bottle. I have raised it to 3 stars due to the customer service. I really cannot comment on how this product may affect your improve your equipment.
