I grew this plant last summer and if I had known the many benefits I would have grown enough to can. It does not taste like a cross between apple/pear to me and I would not call it a sugar substitute but it does mysteriously sweeten my coffee and I don't feel as sluggish as I used to feel in the morning (after coffee) so I give 5 stars.

Notice how all the pictures show the syrup being poured out of a different container? That's because the plastic bottle is terrible. It has a 1.5" wide mouth, that's too small for spoons, with a screw top. You're either going to glob out too much syrup or drip it on the side of the bottle/table.The syrup itself does taste good. Probably going to wait until the "health" hype dies down if I buy more, over $2/oz is expensive.

I normally just use plain yakon syrup in the jar.This is very tasty, and user friendly.So worth it if your trying to watch your calories.

A bit bitter to taste.
