A well written book of the lessons, practices, subjects, principles and events dedicated to the father of quality production.

This is a wonderful book. I had the pleasure of attending a Deming 4 day seminar back in the early 90's. As I read this book (still reading and re-reading it!), I could almost hear Dr. Deming's raspy voice. Every page of this amazing collection is worth highlighting, dog-earing, or copying (fair use only!) and posting on your desk or bulletin board. I could see a great desktop calendar coming out of this with all the great quotations. Focusing on Dr. Deming's philosophy of management, this book is best summed up by the following quote, "Deming's over-riding message: quality and operations are all about systems, not individual performances; the system has to be designed so that the worker can perform well." There is so much scope and breadth to the work of Edwards Deming that attempting to bring it all together in a single book on leadership principles would appear to be taking on the impossible. But Joyce does a remarkable job and gives Deming a fresh perspective in the process. The book organizes this collection of excerpts from speeches, letters, and papers, in a logical and highly accessible flow that 'even executives' will understand. Never have they needed to understand it more than now.

This is a good collection of writings and talks by Deming. It is well edited, but does get a bit tedious toward the end. Kind of like eating four chocolate bars in one sitting.

Been reading Deming since undergrad nursing school. Now I’m 50-something and working in hospital administration. Oh do hospitals need this guy! I’m doing my best! Glad to have this guy in my ear!!

Orsini has done a wonderful job collecting, curating, and arranging this volume of Deming's words. While there are overlaps with other Deming books, there are also insights into Deming's life and character and his interactions with company executives that make for fascinating reading. I can only imagine being that blunt with people in the C level of major corporations and surviving to tell the tale.

In search of something, I have subjected myself to the reading, or even studying, of many business books, but have always come away with more questions about that something I was searching for. Then came Deming in my life, and that changed everything. This book pieces together many of Deming's writings in a simple, understandable way. This book is well worth a read

Leider ist Deming den meisten nur über seinen Plan-Do-Check-Act Zyklus bekannt. Viel weniger weis man über seine allgemeinen Managementtheorien. Ich würde ihn ohne Weiteres zwischen Drucker und Malik einordnen. Ein sehr unterhaltsames Buch mit einigen neuen und vielen altbekannten Theorien für gutes Management mit vielen Beispielen.

This is probably one of the most important book of leadership every manager should have. I read the book and found it inspirational. Through your journey on quality, you will need it. A compilation of thoughts of the father of the Science of Improvement.

I use to have this book and when I couldn't find it for a friend I bought a new one. It's such a great read, loaded with how to succeed strategies from a person who helped Japan rebuild after the war. And they did it in half the time he thought they would need.
