Based on the ancient healing tradition from India that dates back thousands of years, The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies offers natural alternatives to conventional medicines and treatments with practical advice and easy-to-follow instructions. Dr. Vasant Lad, a leading authority in this field, has created an invaluable guide to treating common ailments and chronic problems with strategies tailored to your personal needs based on your dosha. Dr. Lad first explains the principles behind the science of Ayurveda, exploring the physical and psychological characteristics of each of the three doshas, or mind-body types--vata, pitta, and kapha. Once you have determined which type or combination of types you are, Dr. Lad helps you to begin your journey to the ultimate "state of balance" and well-being. Dr. Lad explains why certain imbalances often result in illness and shows you how to restore your body to natural order. You'll learn which traditional Ayurvedic remedies--herbal teas and formulas, essential oils, meditation, yoga--offer relief from a variety of conditions, such as cold and flu symptoms, headaches, toothaches, sore throats, high cholesterol, vision problems, anxiety, and depression. Dr. Lad also shows you how to use diet and specific Ayurvedic techniques to prevent future illness and to promote body consciousness and healthy living. The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies enables us all to experience the benefits of Ayurveda's healing properties that have been refined over thousands of years. All of the herbs, foods, and oils Dr. Lad recommends can be found in local health food stores or through mail-order catalogs. Complete with an extensive glossary and resource list, this is the definitive guide to natural, safe, and effective remedies, everyday keys to a lifetime of vitality and well-being. Review: Cures, not mere Symptom management - I'm still reading it, just wanted to give it five stars. Ayurveda is so special. All i'll say is my general impression as well as my impression of the doshas. You could summarize ayurveda as "removing accumulated toxins and straightening out diet", which ENTIRELY encompasses all the most down to earth successful knowledge about health The reason I wanted to talk about the doshas is that, Imagine a world where ALL you knew was what went "into" your body, how it "felt", and what "came out" of your body. That is the entirety of how Ayurveda developed, and that is a sane approach to biology, right? There are just 3 doshas, and they certainly all refer to real forces in biology. Kapha refers to structure and lubrication, which sounds very vague, I know, but in ayurveda, what kapha usually refers to is nutritional deficiency, OR sufficiency. it's not some mysterious force, it's protein, fat, metals, vitamins... Pitta basically refers to digestion and metabolism, and how to not get too hot or too. The final dosha is Vata, which basically refers to Anything That Moves to promote health. It's an umbrella term whethever ayurveda realizes it or not. It goes for Chi flow, anything that moves via the blood, and avoiding lifestyle/dietary habits that might cause pooling and stagnancy on Any level. So that's cool, right? All three doshas refer to real things, and it was a biological science that was developed without knowing how every subtle function in the body works, but nailed a lot of it. This book is worth every penny. Modern western doctors suggest to us that health is an esoteric religion that only comes at high cost, which was a joke from it's birth, and of course, pain management became a priority over curing because of one motivating factor: dollar bills. So imagine a science of healing that developed without big monies involved and over (at least) thousands of years. Ayurveda and Chinese medicine are some of the only options for cures, not mere symptom management. These medicines did not develop with the focus of symptom management. A must have for any healthy household Review: I Cannot Believe How Great This Book Is! - I was looking for exactly what the title says it is, and it is exactly what the title says it is, a pretty complete book of ayurvedic home remedies. Great index. It is great for beginners and a reference for any level of ayurvedic student. Vasant Lad's writing style is very appealing to me. It is laid-back, but informative. I feel like I am reading a book written TO ME by an old friend or relative. This is good writing. I also feel there is terrific information here. I have put into place several of the recommendations for my dosha, pitta, and am already getting great results. Overall, what I am most impressed with is Mr. Lad's writing style, so comfortable and easy to read. Mr. Lad shares the ayurvedic traditions with an air of authority whilst also managing to sound like he is letting you in on an ancient secret passed down from his family. Never, never, do I feel like I am stupid, reading this. Only that there is "this" to learn, take it or leave it, or use the information as it works best for YOU personally. This book is great and I see he has written other books, MANY other books, and I cannot wait to read them! Namaste to Mr. Lad, and to desertcart for having this book in their library.

BEST PURCHASE EVER
WOW! I had great expectations for this book after reading the description and reviews (I am completely new to Ayurveda and this is the first book I have ever purchased on the subject), and it surpassed my expectations and then some. I am thrilled to death with this purchase, and I am so thankful to Vasant Lad for putting all of this information together. My daughter, who is only eight, was soooo excited when I told her about the constitutional types (I am Vata and she is Pitta) because it made complete sense to both of us, and it helped to explain our day-to-day functioning. We are both really excited to begin incorporating the many suggestions for improving our diets and overall health. I have been on a quest for many years now to help me explain my sense of sub-par functioning (brain fog, anxiety, mild depression), and I KNEW it was related at least in part to food, and for the first time ever I truly believe I'm on the right path. An important note: I LOVE how the author stresses the importance of going to a doctor and ruling out any serious medical issues. My daughter and I both have celiac disease (we can't eat gluten), and the information presented in this book wouldn't have helped much if weren't already on a gluten-free diet. I would give everyone I know a copy of this book if I knew they'd treasure it as much as I do!

Good Book!
Personally I like the book. It serves as a great initial reference book if one is new to Ayurveda and if one wants to make lifestyle and dietary changes according to Ayurvedic principles. The book gives an understandable insight into Ayurvedic medicine, it has a Dosha test and descriptions of each Dosha type, it provides home panchakarma instructions, it has general food and lifestyle guidelines for each Dosha type and last but not least it provides Ayurvedic home remedies for illnesses from A to Z.

Very complete and easy to read. Try the paper version
I loved this book and the depth it goes to explain the magic of Ayurveda. It will be a great reference book. I don’t recommend the kindle version since it doesn’t have a table of all the diseases and medicines so when you need something you will have to scroll until you find it. That being said I’ll just share my thoughts on the fact that here in the west it seems rather difficult to implement all the medicines and treatments the book talks about. We are too used to rely in other means of healing and if you decide to commit to ayurveda just know it will take a lot of getting used to

The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies
Vasant Lad's The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies is a wonderful opus which provides both easy, straight-forward explanations for remedies while assisting the interested and engaged student to learn the sanskrit of the remedies from an Ayurvedic point of view. Specifically important is our "tridoshas," the three body types that we all have that must be in good balance for essential self-healing. Those who want to learn more about Ayurveda and its connection to astrology, the basis of all spiritual traditions, will connect the fire, earth-water, air-either connection of the four elements of the astrological chart and each person's temperament. Using one's own astrological chart, one can connect the ancient astrological - elemental philosopies to create greater understanding to one's more rapid self healing, not only of body, but of mind and spirit through understanding the greater connection we have to our inner being and others' health challenges. This is an opus for 'WHOLE HEALTH!!!!!!!!!!!!" Great gratitude to Vasant Lad for this greater enlightening work!!!!!!!!!

Fabulous, helpful guide
As a yoga practitioner and someone who is working at balancing my life, moving towards that which is positive and life-affirming, I find this an invaluable guide. The basics of ayurveda are introduced in a clear manner in the first section of the book and serve as a very useful introduction to anyone new to the subject. The second section lists a broad variety of different ailments and provides practices ranging from diet to herbs, yoga asanas, breathing exercises and meditation by which you can influence your own healing and take back your own power. Wonderful book, I often consult it daily.
