Purchased this to make baking an apple pie easier - which it definitely did. After a few pushes and wiggles, I have several symmetrically cut slices that are the perfect size for pies. My significant other saw me using it and couldn't wait to try it. He started using it practically daily to cut up apples for snacking. When I first used it I was slightly annoyed that it wasn't able to fully cut through the depth of the apple - have to pull/wiggle the slices out. But my boyfriend said that this is one of his favorite features since he can push it through an apple to slice it, keep the apple on the slicer to bring onto the couch and pull out the slices one by one as he eats them. What I once thought was slightly inconvenient now makes me laugh since I often joke with my boyfriend about the portability of apples and their slices. I'd recommend this product if you'd like a much quicker way to core & slice up apples.

I have several apple slicers. 8-16 slice versions. Small apple to large apple slicers. So far THIS IS THE BEST I’ve found. The biggest problem I’ve had with them all, and the reason I bought this one, was many apples are crooked. They don’t sit straight. So the corer can’t core and you have to try and start the slicer at an angle. It doesn’t work. THE BASE of this slicer FIXES CROOKED APPLES. Please see pictures. You set the crooked apple on the base straight up and down. This slicer…with its particularly handy CURVED blades slices straight down my crooked apples. The curved blades hold the crooked apple on the base better than straight blades. 8 vs 16 slices. Yes…an 8 slice slicer is easier to push through an apple than a 16 slice slicer. Yes…I wish this slicer was 16 or at least 12 slices. But honestly, this is the easiest slicer I have. I’m going to give my others away. If I find a similar style in a 12 or 16 slice version I will buy it. I love apples. They are a great late night snack instead of candy or chips. They are low glycemic. I use this slicer to get 8 pieces. Then I slice each one in half again. I don’t mind doing this because I like thinner slices especially to dip in peanut butter. And because this slicer works SO WELL compared to others, it slices so fast, the extra time to RE slice 8 pieces, doesn’t add more time, compared to my 16 slice version that is sooo hard to push that I have to smash the apple on the counter trying to get it through the apple. That takes longer to get 16 slices than this one including hand slicing. And with this one, the bottom 1/4 of my Apple is NOT MUSHY from slamming it against the counter. I highly recommend this slicer.

This did a good job of coring and slicing apples. I really loved that it cuts apples into 16 slices: a side effect to a medicine I was given for cancer is gradually killing my jawbone. As a result I “chew” mostly with my front teeth where the jaw hasn’t started to die. Slivers are better. But it does take a lot of pressure to cut through the apple. The piece on the bottom that you use once you slice the apple makes getting the slices out much easier. Kind of fun to see the slices open up into a flower! The reason I took off one star, and went back to using a knife, is the corer takes too much of the apple. When I cut, I cut away as little of the apple as possible. When you build a corer, it has to be big enough to get all the seeds, but that also takes away apple at top and bottom as seeds are in the center. I think I would be happier wth a slicer that didn’t core and left that to my knife. This is better for larger apples (though diameter of the apple should be smaller than the the diameter of the corer). For small apples, you would be shocked at how little the slices are. I also tried a 12-slice one, with no extra piece to push up the slices. If you are okay with losing the core, I think this 16-slice is the better buy. They all seem to take out the same amount of core. They all seem to need a hard push, how hard depending on the type of apple. The extra piece, that pushes out the slices, makes this the top choice.

This thing is built a lot better than my pampered chef cutter! I use it for the ridiculously fat apples I get from Safeway and it works quite well. Given that it's wider than the average cutter from Walmart, I expected it to fit for those apples. However, I didn't expyit to be so well built. I like the rubber padded handles and the quantity of slices I get. There is only one issue. The blades do not extend to the edge of the cutter frame. This leaves you to have to turn the cutter over, and push the last few millimeters of apple through the blades to get the apple out - or grab the whole apple on top and pull the apple the final way up through the blades. You have to be a bit careful if you push...cuz you are really close to those blades...and having to grab the whole apple at the top - where all of the cut pieces are - and pulling the apple up might be an issue if you have smaller hands like I do. The solution for the company would be to have a slotted door attached to the back that you can close and would put the apple through the slice sections. There's been only one slicer I've ever found that had this - and that was a small slicer from Walmart that had a little grooved door plate on the back with bump-outs that fit into the slices when closed. I originally thought this was just a protective backing for when I wasn't using it, but realized that it's more for pushing the apples all the way through, as well.

I really I wanted this to work since I have arthritis in my hands it's difficult to slice things at times,an apple being an example. Since I am short and getting up there in age I thought this would be perfect for slice an apple sections. Wrong! I had a difficult time getting it started at the top of the Apple and I couldn't get it to cut down through so I had to find a lower stand, hold the two handles and pound the Apple down 0n the table to see if I could work my way down to start it. Not good. It's like trying to slice an apple with the wrong side of a butter knife.

I purchased the slicer because I dehydrate lots of foods and I thought it would be a quick way to prepare apples. I purposely chose this one because I get more slices then many of the other slicers and I did not want slices to be too thick. It works to give me fairly even slices. Slices average 9/16 of an inch at the thickest part But sometimes I literally have to pound the apple on the counter or the cutting board to get the slicer to go through the fruit.. My biggest complaint is that it does not slice all the way through no matter what I do, including trying to slice the fruit upside down. As you can see in the video, everything stays together. I have to pull or push the pieces out individually which definitely slows me down. I would give it a 3.5 review for its consistency size and durability, but it’s a miss for not having sharp enough blades or the ability to get all the way through the fruit.

I love the slicer I can eat apple sliced this way better.

I am a huge fruit fan and eat an apple or two per day. I buy my apples, from our local farmer's market by the half-bushel. The apples come in all sizes and are often very large. Two Progressive apple corers split when attempting to center and core larger apples. See the side by side comparison of the Newness vs the Progressive; also note the split on the Progressive where the two corers touch. I could never understand why Progressive didn't make a larger corer for "real world" size apples. The Newness corer is just what the "doctor ordered." In the two months that I've been using it, there haven't been any problems coring the largest apples. I saw some reviews stating that the Newness corer wasn't sharp enough. There's a proper technique to coring an apple that involves centering the the blade and pushing it in deep enough to support lifting the apple up off of the counter or cutting board. You then need to raise the apple about two or three inches or so off of the cutting surface and bring it down with enough force to slice it close to the bottom. You then need to turn it upside down, repeat the previous step, with less force in order to release the apple from the corer. You can then break off the slices off of the semi-intact cored/sliced apple as you eat them if you don't core them all the way to the bottom of the apple. Overall, the Newness Apple Slicer Corer is a sturdy well built corer. The blades and handles are solid. I researched and reviewed numerous corers before purchasing the Newness Apple Slicer Corer. It's the best corer that I've found yet and is still as sturdy, months later, as the first day that I used it and every day since!
