This is a useful adjunct to the far more comprehensive studies required in ...
This is a concise and concrete how-to manual based on the Wechsler Adult scales. The CD provides packaged/"canned" test protocols so as to get up and running with adult intelligence testing without having to reinvent the wheel. This is a useful adjunct to the far more comprehensive studies required in conducting Neuropsychological Evaluations, which are directed to ferreting out the Neurobiological (Cerebral) basis of Cognitive Abnormalities. It's also worthwhile to have several of the other texts in this series (also authored by the Kaufmans), so as to avail oneself of other, purely PSYCHOLOGICAL test methodologies.MBT, MDMBT, MD

All the Essentials Are Here
The Essentials series continues, this time for WAIS-IV. Comprehensive, thoughtful, and based on good theory and research, the authors cover every aspect of WAIS-IV construction, administration, and interpretation. PLUS... there is a bonus this time.... a CD with software to do all the STEPS calculations for you! Wish we could get this for WISC-IV. Highly recommended for clinicians using the WAIS-IV.

I highly recommend this book if you will be using the assessment
This is the most practical and helpful book on the WAIS IV. I highly recommend this book if you will be using the assessment. It breaks down key concepts, walks you through test administration and interpretation. It is far better than the manual in the kit.

WAIS-IV assessment book helpful, somewhat
I ordered this book hoping to get assistance in making sense of the large amount of data generated by administering and scoring the test, following my first administration. One attraction of the book was that it comes with a CD program that interprets the data, once you have calculated and entered the standard scores. I wrongly assumed that the program would do automatically what the test manual prescribes for hand-scoring. (The publisher's available scoring program is rather expensive for the number of tests I administer.) I had some difficulty opening the program, getting error messages. I contacted Wiley IT support and they were helpful in solving the problem. I had started writing my report before I received the book. When I ran the test scores through the program, for comparison, I soon realized that some of the interpretation methodology differed from that described in the WAIS-IV manual. For example, the criteria for determining if there are significant differences between subtests within an index, (which according to the book renders an index "not interpretable") are different. The method in the book has a higher numeric level required for significant differences. That led to some confusion on my part on how to and whether to combine the two approaches or stick with one, which I finally resolved by determining which was more helpful for making recommendations for the client. If you are comfortable with the various statistical underpinnings of test interpretation and want to do in-depth interpretation, you will probably like this book. It offers an alternative, 5-index approach called the Keith method, in addition to the WAIS 4-index approach. It also offers additional clinical clusters based on various theoretical models of intelligence.

Highly recommended
Very clear. Lots of guidance throughout. CD allows for building through to the protocol for later analysis.

IL CD incluso nel libro non contiene il software di scoring, ma brani musicali
Il CD incluso che dovrebbe contenere il software per lo scoring dei dati è un Cd audio. Contiene cioè brani musicali. Una beffa!!

Great, useful tool but opt for the hard copy not the Kindle version.
I am a Clinical Psychologist and I use this book every time I need to complete the WAIS-IV assessment, it has been extremely useful and helped me to write detailed and informative reports for my client group. However, I did buy the Kindle version because I needed it right there and then, however I am deeply regretting it now as the layout changes in the kindle cloud reader every time I use it. Sometimes the hyperlinks don't work and it's difficult to navigate to pages that you know you've seen and used previously. If you can wait to get a hard copy delivered I would go with that over the Kindle option. Sorry Kindle, you're also usually great.
