Obrigado Brazil: Live in Concert

Can't get enough of it!
This was a live performance that was recorded and turned into a wonderful concert designed for listeners who are not afraid to be called hybrid listeners mainly because this is both classical music and Brazilian music intertwined neatly for the discerning ear. The quality of musicians is superb! Now, this was recorded 11 years ago. It sounds fresh as ever. I have the Yo Yo Ma CD of Obrigado Brazil and some of the selections also appear on this CD albeit performed live instead of in a studio. The musical talent of Rosa Passos, her voice and guitar playing are on display here. Paquito Rivera is another superior musician (clarinet) that showcases his talent and practically steals the show from Yo Yo Ma and Rosa Passos. All three of them combined with all the other superior musicians who make up the ensemble is worth the money for a great collection CD.

Great sounding live CD
I was in Tower and saw this in one of their kiosks and gave it a listen as I had just recently been watching my Appalachian Journey DVD that Yo Yo Ma had recorded before. This one was as good , maybe better. I was just blown away how great the music sounded when I had no previous reference to any of the music on this disc. The combination of the clarinet, not my favorite instrument , on two tracks with the Cello sounded so fresh and detailed that I was bowled over (Libertango and Merengue) I was so impressed that I bought the disc right there , full price and everthing. Not something that I ever do anymore.

Love Yo-Yo Ma anything
Love Yo-Yo Ma anything, but this is my favorite. Rosa Passos caresses each note she sings as Yo-Yo Ma plays. I gave it away to a friend visiting from Japan and had trouble finding it to replace it for myself. Get it if you can...

Good music, engineering could be better
I bought the disk after hearing about the colaboration on NPR. The songs and performances are impecable, the variety is satisfying and fun. My only complaint is that the quality of the recording leaves something to be desired. Several times the recording level is not balanced between the instruments so that when listening to YoYo Ma playing, when joined by the saxaphone, it comes in too loud and ruins the mood.I almost always prefer the live perfomances when the energy of the audience carries over to the performers. This is one case when I wish I had gotten the studio version.

Outstanding!
Outstanding! Not only Yo-Yo Ma, but the entire group. Clarinet -- superb, guitar -- amazing, piano -- amazing. The Brazilian music is great and so well played. You will not regret purchasing this.

Not every performance of Yo-Yo Ma is perfect. It depends on who he’s with.
I loved Yo-Yo Ma and Paquito d’Rivera. I was disappointed in Rosa Passos. She did not sing in tune and ruined many of the pieces for me.

Excellent!
The DVD is short but great. Yo -Yo Ma is a master on the cello. He shows that he can play any type of music, not only clasical.
