Save your life in storms
I have raced and cruised the lower St-Lawrence and the Great Lakes, but never in REALLY heavy weather. Knowing this WILL happen, I have always felt unprepared (with all due respect to Adelard Cole) and uncertain as to what I would do, beyond shortening sail, and battening things down. The tactics, equipment, and techniques in this book are clear, easy to understand, and executable by people who have not spent their entire lives on the water circumnavigating, and who do not have a full race crew aboard. A revelation which answered most of my fears and questions about my boat's strengths and weaknesses, what equipment to have, where to get it, how to install/rig it, and when and how to use and adjust it. It also has great tips about what my crew and I will undergo in terms of fatigue, sleep, food, morale, & watch-keeping, to survive extreme conditions and maybe still love sailing. This book is well-written, well-illustrated, and easy to read - in my view a must for anyone going beyond day-sailing. Available through AMAZON.com it has given me the confidence to believe I can be a better, safer sailor in any weather.

thanks for sharing
Awesome information obtained by living in the storms and passing on the wisdom to us. Should be studied and practiced before ocean crossings.

Greatest Insight Into Real Seamanship
I've done only few offshore races on classic LOA 40ft keelboat, and am a club racer kind of sailor overall, never crossed any oceans or caught any huge storms. I guess this was the core reason why I decided to read this book, as I felt completely unprepared for serious conditions. This book re-assured me about what happens, taught me lessons based on latest history of 20th century offshore occasions, and explained how to plan, prepare and sail the passage where those "1%" conditions, - and as this book mentioned, those are much seldom than accidents on motorways these days, - could happen. I highly recommend this book for any experiences of seamanship, especially if you have very limited experience in rough seas.

This book is the best book I have read about storms and the chance ...
This book is the best book I have read about storms and the chance of losing your boat. The author and her husband, life long sailors and experts. Especially good was the Para Anchor idea of it keeping your boat in a stable position and have it break the incoming waves. Look for the Storm DVD they have listed with some copies of this book. This is the best single boating book I have.

Good gift for the person who likes sailing
I got this for my then boyfriend at the time who is into sailing. When talking with him I assessed that he really needed to learn more safety especially when it came to storms. I researched the best books about storm safety and this came up. I skimmed the book and read some good information that would be really helpful. The then boyfriend liked the book because it was about sailing so it was a win.

Another staple of my sailing library
You can never go wrong with a Pardey book, but this one is particularly gripping. The case for heaving-to is alive and well in these pages with many many stories and anecdotes. A very fun read.

Very informative and very useful strom management infos. The experiences of the authors make it absolutely sufficient information source. If I bought it again, I would choose the classic, not the kindle version.

Ottimo libro, spiegazioni chiare. Solide testimonianze a sostegno della cappa e di un uso saggio dell'ancora galleggiante per fronteggiare anche le più dure tempeste marine.

a superb book - a bargain at [currently] just over a tenner [£10.35] ...... !! { btw ... I've no connection with either amazon or the pardeys } essentially a presentation of 'what to do' - both in preparation for & during a storm situation ; or, at the very least, a very useful 'what you could try'. whilst it is based largely upon [the pardey's] personal experience, it incorporates experiences related by others and includes consideration of lessons learned following the '79 fastnet race, the "queen's birthday storm", sidney - hobart, etc. it is full of [what seem to me to be] simply sensible suggestions & practical plans-of-action that [one day] might just 'make the difference'. fascinating & thought-provoking [surely essential reading for anyone even considering going offshore in a small-ish sailboat], this would also serve well as thoughtfully laid-out 'dip-into' reference.
