Worth reading
I bought this book through Amazon as a required text for a college Sociology class. It was sold out at the bookstore but Amazon was also cheaper than going through my school's bookstore. Although this is a book used in class, it's interesting enough to consider if you just want more information on family violence or social justice issues. It's well written with an engaging flow of informative facts, charts, statistics & eye opening personal stories.

Informative
I bought this book for a class requirement. This book is amazing. Great information, easy to read and understand. I gained a lot of insight, and I just wish I had read this book earlier in my life. I highly recommend this book to students, or anyone who wants to understand more about the effects of violence on children, and how the consequences can follow one during their life. (neglect, abuse, sexual abuse, stalking and more..)

Needed this for a class
It was cheaper (even with shipping) to buy the book here than it was at my school's bookstore. I don't sell textbooks back because you never get nearly what you paid for them, but this one was pretty good regardless. I was able to use it for several other papers in other classes.

effective
very effective for my class. I wish the professor had been a better teacher as we could have learned so much from her, but instead the book was our teacher. Ms Gosselin, If you read this review. Thank you for a great class.

Serious flaws.
While some of the information in this book is good, there are some serious flaws. It was a required text for my Domestic Violence class. The most glaring flaws are that the author makes conclusions based on little or no evidence. The worst I've seen is where the author stated they didn't have the evidence, then concluded if they did, the numbers would be worse. You cannot honestly state that your theories are correct by stating that even though you don't have evidence, your theories would be proven if there were evidence because your theory states there should be evidence. There's definitely a slant to the book, but that slant is ever present academia. Another glaring error is it's very minor coverage of female on male abuse. One positive, it does cover same gender relationship abuse. All in all, I'd prefer a text that covered abuse as abuse and doesn't generalize on stereotypes.
