The only problem I found with it is that the metal pieces that hold up the wooden handle get hot, so you have to be careful to not get burned. **Q: Is this item seasoned and if not, what is your recommendation?** A: Yes, mine was slightly seasoned. However, I seasoned mine again. Remove the handle, oil it, and bake it at 400 degrees for about 30 minutes. I have a smooth surface one I like much better but could not find one. So I bought this one. It will do the job but harder to clean. My biggest issue is the protected coating is hard to get off. I place it in a large black ironskillet with grape seed oil to remove the coating and season the press. After several tries i still get a cloth black when I wipe it off. Any suggestions is welcome. Ok. Now that I have used it several times after I learned how to season it properly. I love it.
