The Story of the World Activity Book Four: The Modern Age: From Victoria's Empire to the End of the USSR

History-on the go!
We are a homeschool family and find this series very interesting and entertaining. We travel extensively and we listen to these when we are on the go. We get great history lessons between drs appointments, running errands or road trips to national parks. My boys (7, 9 and 11) enjoy them so much we often sit in the driveway to finish a segment! Obviously we could just bring the cd inside but we are captivated in the moment because these stories bring history alive! I recommend the whole series of The Story of the World. They are a fun way to learn about history and the cds are enjoyable for the whole family! The series also has a book version and a test/activities companion. I know we will use these again in the future to refresh our understanding so these are a great investment for us.

Mostly new
I bought a new workbook but some pages had light writing in them. I'm thinking I got a used copy by mistake. Otherwise book is in excellent condition.

I love the activities in this book!
I love this activity book! I have used all of The Story of the World books with my children. I used only two of the activity guides in the past as I use another curriculum in conjunction with these books. My youngest is now in 7th grade and I am going to use this activity book exclusively with her for the remainder of this year and her upcoming eighth grade year. I am so very pleased with it! I almost didn't get it because of the other reviews but there was one that gave me hope. My daughter is so glad I gave it a try. We love the activities, as well as the outlines, and maps! The timeline figures work very nicely with our timeline book we just cut them a little smaller. Thank you Susan Wise Bauer and Charlie Park for another great activity book!

Great Book for Maps & Outlines! Not as many coloring pages.
Packed full of maps for geography work -- awesome outlines that are left partially blank for the students to fill in -- It is definitely geared towards the older "middle grade" student -- advanced 5th grade and right on target for junior higher's. The activity book no longer provides as many coloring pages as the previous books and this is a disappointment to all of us, even our 8th grader. Otherwise, it's a nice wrap up and well written and informative.

Just what we were looking for!
This activity book looks to be exactly right for my son who will be in fourth grade and nine -years-old. He is excited about switching from summaries to the outlines and we all love the maps. You just can't have too many maps in a book, at least in this house you can't.I can see that if you have not been following the Well Trained Mind suggestions in having your child write detailed 6-10 sentence summaries, then the writing might be overwhelming, but I think it is the perfect next step for those of us who have. Compared to the suggested summaries for the third volume of the series, I was pleased that the emphasis for Volume Four seems to be on organization of writing rather than volume.

Must-have for homeschooling
I really appreciate the activity guides that go with Story of the World! The maps alone are worth it. Great suggestions for rounding out each chapter as much as you want, with extra reading suggestions, activities, and comprehension questions.

All of the Story of the World activity books are awesome. But I have to say that the entire curriculum is awesome. When I read to my kids (ages 5-16), they love it. They hate it when I stop reading! My 10th grader was supposed to be studying his own history curriculum, but he always curls up in a chair and listens as I read this to my younger ones. He said, "I just love how it is written. It makes history INTERESTING." Enough said. :)

I will be buying the activity book for all of the Story of the World books that we already read! Fun and easy and great for a range of ages, even my high school children participate and enjoy the activities.

Brilliant!
What a fantastic book! This book is huge and packed with loads of ideas of how to make history come alive for children. This book is to be bought along with the main Story of the World book and for each chapter you read this will give you lots of activities to do. Some chapters having cooking tasks, there's always map work, there are review questions, things to make, recommended additional reading and so much more. My children, aged 10,12 and 13, have really enjoyed working through this book. We don't do every single activity for each chapter, we pick and choose the ones that appeal to us.

Great material
Completing our sets of this series with the book, workbooks and CD for journey listening which has found us sitting in the car eagerly caught up not wanting to stop. So any time, anywhere for all ages! Just need more time to do them justice.
