I washed it really well when I first got it and ran vinegar water through it a few times. I only use distilled water in it so maybe that has something to do with it. I will let the water sit at the minimum line and then make one more bottle with it to use up the rest in the container and then fill it back up. I only wash mine maybe once a week.
