The Unofficial Masterbuilt Smoker Cookbook: A BBQ Smoking Guide & 100 Electric Smoker Recipes

Variety of recipes, needs some work
I have an electric smoker, I can't use charcoal in it, so there are recipes I just skipped right over. My husband is the chef in our house and frankly, I'm not the one to go outside and tend to the smoker. There are a lot of typos and and grammatical errors in the book (that's very distracting for me). There aren't enough recipes for the electric smoker, but there are a lot of recipes for different types of food. Overall, the book has a lot to offer, I just think it needs a good edit. I received this book at a promotional discount in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Really liked this book
There aren't a whole lot of recipes in this book (which is the only reason I am not giving it 5 stars), but the ones we have tried have been great. It also has a nice variety of different types of things you can smoke. Figuring you can do your own variations on a theme, you could easily make your own adjustments to a recipe to get a slightly different result. Both the pork ribs and the turkey turned out fantastic. If you are a newbie to smoking, this is easy to use and everything is quite tasty.

Not Your Typical "Food Porn" Cookbook
I admit I actually bought this book for the sole purpose of learning how to make cold smoked salmon after eating it on vacation last summer. I was looking for a book that outlined the techniques of smoking as this is where success lies. I can say that this simple, thin cookbook was clear in its directions / techniques. Technique was important to me - be forewarned this is not the typical "food porn" cookbook that is thin on technique and rife with errors. The smoking directions are spot on and there were no errors in the salmon or brisket recipes.I appreciated that were was no marketing toward any particular gear. I also appreciated that the recipes were aimed at regular smoking technique (not grilling, nor Kamado style, nor rotisserie, nor charcoal); some cookbooks these days try to cover all bases.

What are you smokin', Bob?
Smokin' Bob Jensen has smoked too much! If English is your first language, you will not miss the terrible sentence structure, confusing directions, and the ridiculous typos. . For starters, there is a disclaimer on the first page. I can see why, since, "The smoker can (?) be heavy. Be very careful not to drop it on your damn foot." The directions for setting the time-to-cook repeatedly refer to temperature, instead of hours and minutes. I will quote just one sentence:"Be sure to cook the past first" (Pg 91) (should be pasta, not past). There are several sentences that make absolutely no sense!I bought the Materbuilt smoker for my husband at Christmas. It will come out of its box today. I hope it is still under warranty, as the book says we will need a retrofit kit for the (mostly) non-working smoke tray. So, I have learned something from this book...and am sure I will continue to learn. However, $16.00 for a paperback that has not been edited, is totally in black an white, and manufactured poorly, is a rip off. (Some pages were folded into the book before they were trimmed.) In addition, Smoking' Bob wants me to download the book to take advantage of an ACTION GUIDE that will help me have the most success with cooking.....isn't that what THIS book should do??? This is painful reading. Take your head out of the smoker, Bob!! I'm back a week later...I have now opened my Masterbuilt smoker, read the directions, and used it as well. All I can say in a short amount of time is this: do not do what Bob says. Read your smoker directions and follow them. Some of the recipes (like for chicken) are good as far as seasoning goes. Then you are on your own! NEVER put charcoal in your Masterbullt smoker!!!

Good Starter Recipe Book for a Smoker.
The book has a large number of recipes for smoking food. I have an new electric smoker. We found that the timing recommended for some of the items was too short - sometimes by up to an hour. The good thing was the variety of foods that the book covered that I would not have thought to do.

Loaded with Information
A lot more information than I thought was going to be in it. Did find a few typos and grammar mistakes but I got the jest of what it is talking about. worth the money I paid for.Came in handy for our 4th of July Brisket.

Love the recipes with an asterisk.
I love the range of recipes and the quality of the recipes but the suggested smoking times for my smoker are way short. I've had to double or triple the recipe suggested times when I've used the books recipes.
