The British Virgin Islands have issued a truly remarkable collection of five superb commemorative coins to mark the 200th Anniversary of Vice-Admiral Horatio NelsonÆs great triumph at Trafalgar. The first coin features the statue of Nelson atop his column in Trafalgar Square with ships of the line in the background. The second coin displays the Admiral and his great adversary Napoleon. The third coin shows five of NelsonÆs favourite vessels û æAgamemnonÆ, æVanguardÆ, æElephantÆ, æCaptainÆ and æVictoryÆ û along with his order of the Bath. The fourth depicts the Chase to the West Indies in 1804 with four warships including Victory and a map of the British Virgin Islands and its coat of arms in the background. The fifth coin in this splendid set depicts the Vice-Admiral dying, whilst simultaneously learning of the fleetÆs victory. All the coins show Nelsons distinctive signature below the central design and were struck under auspices of the National Maritime Museum, London.
