Get Out of Your Head Study Guide: A Study in Philippians

It really does get you out of your head!
Oftentimes we lack the joy in our lives that we so desire bc we are too focused on ourselves. It’s when we step outside of ourself and do for others and make the effort to help another person in some way or be there for them that we are given the gift of joy. That’s what life is about…relationship…and loving others…and realizing we are all in this life together and to live that way. Joy is a gift from God; and when we get out of our own heads by actively reaching out to others, it is then that we begin to experience the gift of joy that only comes from above. This book is great! And it gives you things to do to help you get out of your head. It’s really neat to see where this book takes you. My friend told me about this book when she reached out to me after ten years of having not talked with her. It was a lesson in the book and she reached out and now we are back close as ever. And wow it’s amazing how God works.

Great bible study!
This bible study is great for the period in life that I am. It really makes me reflect on my feelings and emotions and take an inward look as I focus on myself and Christ in me. It is a great reflection and it has brought me closer to Christ!

An Honest Review: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
I was led by God to this study when I received a free online invitation at just the right time at a critical point in my journey. I immediately Amazon-ed all the tools. For many years, my anxiety had been manageable without medication or counseling until 7 weeks ago when I suffered a severe anxiety attack, which landed me in the ER 4 times and in the hospital. I was convinced I was in a hypertensive crisis, and I was. My unmanaged anxiety, unchecked spiraling thoughts, and years of sustained stress from work, church, and home life had caught up to me. I'm almost finished with the study, and it has helped me "see" the toxicity of playing "worst case scenario" and how to shift to healthier thinking in a Jesus-ward direction. Here's what I observed in the study:1. Jennie is anointed and has a passion for her ministry that goes beyond her books. She is driven to "serve others". When I listen to her messages (without notes), she seems to posture herself on the edge of something. It's like her words are not fast enough to convey what's in her mind and heart. I love this fire in her.2. The setting she chooses are intention and full of symbolism of the message that she is teaching. I won't spoil that for you. I'll let you experience that for yourself.3. One critic on her said the book doesn't match her workbook, and there are no discussion questions. If you read that review, it's untrue. Her text pairs beautifully with the workbook, but Allen is smart enough to allow your "reading experience" to be more fluid than your "writing/workbook" experience. If you want to read the first four chapters, you can, and you still will hear her pull the text into the messages and the workbook. I love that, and you will too.4. If you suffer from anxiety, depression, disappointment, disillusionment, fear, and want a deeper connect point with God, this is a safe place to start. I love that she does give you meaty material as well as balancing it with practical exercises THAT WORK!5. She is respectful of time--she doesn't teach hour-long messages with a week's worth of homework. While that format works well for the studious of Bible readers and those who really have the commitment, she teaches her students to be good stewards of time. This is definitely do-able for a power-hour lunch meeting with the girls. Twenty minutes for the message with plenty of time for worship and discussion.

Not awesome, not terrible
I really wanted to love this workbook.I enjoyed the book but was hoping that the additional workbook would be a good asset to my small groups discussions. I found the study was a bit confusion in how to have it work cohesively with the book. It also felt like a lot of different elements between the book, workbook and video. I guess if you picked and choosed what elements you were going to use it would be fine.
