Cotman Watercolor Paint Set, 12 Half Pan Field Pocket Set

This is the best plein air watercolor kit I have found! For a watercolor hobbyist like me, I don’t need big pans of each color so the quarter pans (I think) are more than enough for me. The pigments are good quality and deep, I think the selection of colors are good as well. Plus, I like that the pans can be removed if I wanted to take some of my other watercolor paints along. I don’t love the little brush that comes with it only because I can’t get the handle to stay in the cap well and it’s fallen out on me as I am painting, messing up my work. But the brush itself is good for detailed work. I still have to carry another brush or two for covering more space. The best part is the little water holder and that there’s a part that can be used for cleaning your brushes between colors! All in all, it’s a very compact and versatile little kit!

The palette arrived quickly and was in perfect condition, everything sealed, so there were no worries of it being a used item (happened sometimes when ordering). The product is AMAZING! How they came up with this palette that's less than the size of my hand is astounding, and it has 2 mixing trays, a water flask, brush, container to put water, room for 12 half pans, and a tiny sponge! Even the paint pan section has a way of loading the half pans so that they don't rattle around. I bought this for the palette and not the paint as I have professional level paint to put in it, but I tried out the Cotman paint and was really impressed. I've heard from art forums that the Cotman paints perform closer to professional than student and now that I've tried them, I agree. This is a high end palette in both design and paint quality. I would 100% recommended this to anyone on the fence about spending $ on watercolor paint. The colors are bright and easy to use with a brush full of water. Perfect as always. Winsor & Newton rarely fails to deliver and with this mini watercolor field kit they go above and beyond. The color set gives you a wide range of options and the fact that the paints are interchangeable not only allows you to organize the colors in any way you want but you but you can purchase you own colors and replace them as you see fit. The brush is a nice size and does the job (I do bring my own brushes though) but I didnt really buy this for the brush, however the fact that the brush is collapsible and has a cover is a nice plus. The kit has three mixing pans which is amazing considering how small the kit it - everything has a function in this kit there is no wasted space. It holds a decent amount of water in the little jug and the cup that holds the water is sturdy when attached to the side of your kit. The sponge is a nice little bonus and just shows how much attention to detail W&N pays attention to their products. You also have an awesome little ring on the back of you kit so that you can hold you palette in your hand if you find cant set it down somewhere. It also clips well to a sketch book with a large binder kit but you will lose a lot of one mixing pan when doing that. Love this kit so very much! Thank you Winsor & Newton! If you are looking at this versus the Winsor & Newton Cotman Water Colour Compact Set and/or the Cotman Plus Kit I have to say hands down go with this kit I also own both Cotman sets and ended up taking out the paint pods and putting them into an Altoids tin and making my own field kit. It just didnt do it for me (But I digress as this isnt a review of the Cotman)... This one addresses all of the issues I had with the Cotman and the Cotman Field Plus Kit. This one is worth the cost.

This is a great travel set up of watercolor. 4 stars is because I hate the white watercolor paint, its useless.

I wasn’t sure if this was going to be adequate, but I love how compact & functional it is. It fits perfectly in my jacket pocket or my day pack so I can paint from my compact watercolor paper book anywhere I go. I love spending time in nature and have found that this little set is absolutely spectacular for on-the -go watercolor painting. Absolutely love it!

This is a cute watercolor set up that's great for travel. I can see how you would have to let everything dry out before assembling or wiping it out but it comes with all the paint, a sponge and a small paint brush.

This is the best watercolor palette that i own! I have the regular "metal tin" palette, an art toolkit palette, and a portable painter palette, but the W&N Field Pocket Set is by far the best. If you are on a stranded island, this palette comes with everything that you need. Holds 12 half-pans (but you can fit full pans in as well), has a large mixing area for a travel palette, comes with a water cup (so you dont need to buy another), a sponge (so you dont need paper towels or rags), a tiny brush (just in case you forgot your own), and a water holder that also works as a mixing area. The Colors that come with this palette are actually expertly chosen. They took a LOT of time choosing which colors to include in their palettes, why? because the palette comes with a Cool red, blue and yellow, and Warm red, blue, and yellow. This is a "split primary" palette that lets you mix any color. Burnt sienna and burnt umber are very useful for natural tones, and they mix well with both blues to make darks. You then have some of the most useful "broad" convenience colors with Dioxazine purple and Sap Green. why are they in this palette? because dioxazine purple is a "middle of the road" purple that can produce a wide range of color when mixed with any of the other colors in this palette. Sap green works the same way. Why Payne's gray and not Ivory or Lamp Black? because payne's gray has a lot more character and range since it has blue undertones. For about $30, this is a great pick up!

This is a great little set for travel! I got it for my daughter and she couldn't be more pleased. Fits easily into a purse or backpack with very little footprint.

Very good product

I love this little travel set. I have an old vintage set from years ago that doesn't have the extra pot and mixing pallets this one has so I always had to carry extra pots. This one so much better as it's got it all in one and folds up neatly and compact so great for space saving The paint is the usual good student quality from winsor newton and contains the main colours selection used. They give a good background wash with easy to apply to good quality paper. They adhere well and are Perfect for students and beginners. I Also use their professional grade paints as well This particular set was very good value
