Replaced single speed winch on my EZ Loader tandem trailer because I needed more power. This is a very impressive winch. Far more heavy duty than the previous one. (I bought the boat and trailer used so I don't know whether that was the original winch but it is a 2008 trailer so it probably was.) This bolted in using the existing holes and bolts without any modification. My only preference would be to have the ability to have both cranks turn either way. The ratchet limits the turning direction of the low speed handle location to turn counter clockwise. For my boat it would work better to be able to use the low speed (high power) crank turning clockwise. The high speed crank turns clockwise. A modification to the design of the ratchet mechanism could accomplish this. That would also allow the strap to come off either the top or the bottom of the drum. As designed it comes off the top. I still give it stars. Even better, it is made in the USA in Hastings, Nebraska.

Quality U.S. made product. Not like some of the other imported junk on the market.
Winch for 18' Crestliner boat.

I like this so much better than the $29 Reese winch
The gear ratio makes it so easy to pull in the boat. Very smooth action. I just like it a lot. It is overkill for my 15' boat, but it is just great. This is a well built item. Be aware that when you hand wind a new strap it is going to loosen up periodically until it gets tightened under driving conditions. Check several times while underway and snug it up.

Very minor change since 1989
Last fall when I pulled my boat onto the trailer, a tooth stripped out on the original equipment boat trailer winch. DL has the same winch as the original trailer and I purchased this to replace the "identical" winch. The DL website is excellent and I printed out a PDF of the base of this unit before I purchased it to confirm that the bolt hole location was identical to the one I was removing from my trailer. I anticipated the bolt holes lining up perfectly. In fact the PDF drawing is correct and the base of the original and on the new winch was identical. But there was a problem. The axel on the winch drum is no more than 1/4" closer to the edge of the metal frame than the one that was on the 1989 trailer. But this 1/4" was a problem because the drum on the new one collided with the previously very close tolerance on the frame of the trailer. I could not modify the trailer. Fortunately I work in a metal manufacturing operation and the shop could make a new bottom plate with holes to match my trailer and weld it onto the bottom of the steel winch bracket. If anyone out there has to do what I did, keep in mind that by welding an additional plate onto the bottom raises the entire unit that additional metal thickness. This required me to shift the winch back away from the boat about an additional 1/2" which I could accommodate in my case. I can imagine situations where there is just no additional spaces on the trailer in which case you may have even more problems. Now that I have it mounted, it works just like the original.

Good Quality 2 speed.
I installed last weekend and it went fairly smooth. I had to buy the strap separate but otherwise thought it was a good price for quality product. Note that strap will require for you to ratchet the winch a few times on your first couple trips. Another nice feature is you can change the direction of how the strap rolls onto the spool, I needed to have it roll up from bottom and was pretty easy to flip the lever.

Nothing but quality
I used these to lift a 55 gallon feeder that has 350 lbs of corn. It does the job with ease! I have gone through numerous winches that are rated for 1k and up to 3 k but this one is the only one that will hold up. I wish I would have purchased these first. Nothing but quality.

Perfect... but bolt pattern had to be modified (widened)
It works GREAT!! It was over-kill for my boat (Bayliner 175). The bolt pattern did not match my trailer. I had to take a dremel tool and widen the holes a bit to fit. Its much heavier duty that my old one. It pulls with ease on speed gear. I didn't even have to use the torque gear.I only upgraded because the locking mechanism started coming loose while driving with the old one. The old one was difficult to pull the boat very far on the bunks (wet with boat in water). With the new one, I can pull the boat on dry bunks with ease.
