The Jar Seed Sprouter 1 qt Growin Cap

Even though this is just a plain mason jar and a little plastic top with mesh, we love it :) We paid around $7 and change, yes you can make your own for a few bucks with some mesh and a jar from the craft store but we use this almost every day and would rather not have a DIY jar for sprouting - the top is easier to use an clean than mesh would be. Plus this comes with 3 different tops for different types of seeds - we are doing almonds right now only but those will come in handy for a lot of people!Nice sized jar - fits a lot, but not huge or bulky or heavy.Tops are lightweight plastic but don't feel flimsy and screw on securetly. Easy to cleanComes with a chart and directions for lots of different seeds (easy to find these online too for all types)If you can pick this up for around $7-$8 with prime, it's a steal!

Couldn't be better for homemade kefir. When the kefir is finished fermenting, I turn this upside down and shake the liquid through the wide openings of the screen into my Vitamix. The kefir grains remain in the glass. I just pour in some fresh whole milk and start the fermentation over again.I bought two of these. After a few days of using the same one over and over, the kefir starts to adhere to the top of the inside. Time for the dishwasher and the backup container.PS If you want my smoothie recipe, it is 1 cup kefir, a handful of greens, 1/2 cup of your favorite frozen fruit, 1/2 of a banana (easy to freeze), and 1 scoop of  Pure Protein Natural Whey Protein Powder, French Vanilla, 1.6 Pound  Yummy! And so healthy!

I've been growing my own microgreens and sprouts since the news that e coli was found in the small plastic boxed sprouts I bought from the supermarket. I use a $15 grow light from a big hardware store and microgreen seeds, but most seeds should work. I use the boxes that my strawberries and blueberries came in and plastic-wrap them (wrap the lid separately), then add 2" soil. I have the grow light on 12 hours a day. This is a slower way than the Jar Sprouter to grow seeds, but it is more orderly. However, given the speed of growth with the Sprouter, I have added it to my growing options. If you want fresh sprouts but don't want to mess around with grow-lights and soil, I would recommend the jar Sprouter. I like mine so much I am sending three to family members for Xmas presents. It's a fun and unique gift with good health benefits.Before I made my purchase, I read some of the low ratings for this product, and my experience is that if you are diligent about rinsing your sprouts twice a day (morning I and evening) you will get fine, healthy sprouts.

This is the easiest and best product for the way I like the grow and keep sprouts. The 3 different sizes of lids for straining and rinsing as well as for storage, for any size seeds you're sprouting!! Great product. One thing I did to help me open the jar with my arthritic hands, was to put a very light touch of olive oil on the inside of each lid. It helped me to open the jar more easily.

This is my second Jar Seed Sprouter in about 15 years. I lost the first one in a move, or I'd still be using it. After losing it, I forgot for a while how awesome sprouting is (sad to say). But now I'm back, hardcore. Using this system, I sprout seeds every three or four days. It does a perfect job, and I have zero complaints. I use  Sprouting Seeds Broccoli and Friends 1 Pound Broccoli Seed, Crimson Clover Seed, Red Radish Seed, Alfalfa Seed  with it, and the results are fantastic. As far as I can tell, there are no unsprouted seeds. The harvest is grand, my friends.

Just finished sprouting my first batch. Just 1-1/2 tbsp of the alfalfa, clover, radish and broccoli blend took only 4 days to completely sprout the mix following the very easy directions. After draining every morning and night, I set the sprouting jar tilting in the dish drainer next to the sink. In the evening of the fourth day I de-hulled the sprouts stored them in a plastic container with a white paper towel in the bottom to absorb additional moisture. The next day, in order to test what was grown, I prepared a little salad with spinach, pomegranate seeds, onions and my freshly made sprouts, topped with a homemade, no-oil, balsamic-acv dressing. Delicious, wonderfully crunchy....and very exciting.

This is such a simple size and idea but it works!I like that the lids can be used for multiple wide mouth ball jars. I also like that the openings have graduated sizes with each ring.I wish this item had come with a sample of seeds. Mine must've been old as they didn't sprout so I have to order a fresher batch and therefore didn't get to see how the product worked once the sprouting began...but I think this is a simple but much better way to sprout seeds than topping a jarwith an old pair of nylons held by a rubber band (LOL, which I had used before). I also like the tips they provided in the instructions.

Back in the 70's & 80's I used to grow sprouts using a Ball jar, cheesecloth and a rubber band. This is the same concept, only the caps are MUCH easier to work with than the cheesecloth. Plus it ends up being more economical because cheesecloth is surprisingly expensive (or I haven't found a good source for it). My first Sprouter arrived with two of the three lids cracked. Amazon customer service was great and shipped me a replacement which came very quickly. I have only tried this with alfalfa sprouts, so can't speak to how it works with other sprouts. I haven't had any problems with screwing on the lids like some reviewers state and for the price paid, I think it's a great deal. I would recommend this to a friend as it works as promised, was a great buy and is very easy to clean.
