Makes litter box maintenace much less of a chore
Litter Genie is a cat litter disposal system that makes is easier and more convenient to scoop your cat's litter box frequently. More frequent scooping keeps litter box smells to a minimum which, in turn, makes it less likely that your cat will poop or pee somewhere outside the litter box. The way it works is this: You take a Litter Genie refill, which is basically a very long tube of plastic that is scrunched up into a plastic holder, and install it under the snap down refill holder (which is very much like a toilet seat with a lid.) There are directions included with the Litter Genie that are really good and show you exactly how to install the refill. You will be pulling down at least a foot of the film and then tying a knot in the bottom. Once you get the refill part installed, here's how to use it. When you're ready to scoop your cat's litter box, open the top lid. Scoop the poo and clumped litter into the toilet seat-like opening. When the upper area becomes full, grasp the plastic flange that is located on the front toward the middle and push down on the little button (located in the flange) while pulling the flange toward you. If you look through the top opening, you will see that pulling the flange releases the soiled litter into the bottom area of the Litter Genie. When it has passed through to the bottom, release the flange and the separator will snap back into place. This separator serves as an odor barrier so that days worth of dirty litter can be stored in the Genie without the foul smell. When the bottom becomes full, you'll need to empty it. The way you go this is to push the button on the middle front of the Genie that is located just beneath where the Genie is divided in half. Pushing the button releases the top half of the Genie so you can fold it back. You can then see the full plastic bag at the bottom. Just pull down more film from the top and then slide it into the cutter located just above the hinge in the back. It is clearly marker CUTTER. You want to be sure to leave enough film at the top of the full bag after you cut so that you can easily tie a knot to close it for disposal. Tie the knot and then lift the full bag out of the Genie. Finally, pull down about a foot of fresh film and tie a knot at the bottom. That's it. The Litter Genie comes with the Genie itself, one refill, one litter scoop, the scoop holder you hang off the side of the Genie and the instruction manual. The scoop is a good quality, plastic one but I already have a metal scoop I really like and it fits perfectly in the holder. I bought a Litter Genie a couple of years ago for my daughter, who had 3 cats at the time. She lives in a city where they have banned the plastic grocery bags, which she had previously been using. This was such a huge improvement for them over the old method because one of her cats had a health issue that caused him to make the smelliest poo - several times a day. Litter Genie made it easy to scoop immediately after he pooped and it truly kept the smell confined to the bottom of the Genie. They are still using it every day and it still performs great. I have 5 cats and I thought one Genie wouldn't be able to keep up with all of the daily waste. Then someone mentioned the silver one was on sale for ~$10, so I bought 3 for my house. (It's more of a battleship grey color than silver.) I keep one downstairs where I have 2 litter boxes and I keep the other two upstairs, where I have 4 litter boxes. This is working very well for me. With 3 Genies, I'm only having to empty them about once a week. Of course, the biggest expense is the refills. Personally, I think they are way overpriced - kinda like ink cartridges for printers. So this is a major thing you want to consider before buying Litter Genie. Looking for them on sale and on eBay and buying whenever you find a good deal can mitigate the costs. Also, you CAN use tall kitchen trash bags as a substitute for the refills. It does work and the Genie still keeps the smells trapped in the bottom, but it's not quite as convenient. Still, I like knowing I can do this just in case I run out of Genie refills and haven't ordered more. If you have a litter box in your house that must be scooped, you might like the Litter Genie as much as I do.

Absolutely Fabulous Especially for the Price! Makes People who Hate Dealing with Litter Happier! Here's What You Need to Know
This is definitely a case of you get way more than you pay for (I mean, for $17 you're probably not expecting much - you may be hoping, but not expecting). Well, I'm here to tell you that given what it is, and what it's made out of, and the price, well, I think they should call it Genius instead of Genie (although I'm sure they are trading on the Diaper Genie craze). Here's what you need to know: - The MOST IMPORTANT thing that you need to know is after the next few things, because I'm trying to do it in the order you will encounter it. - This thing *really works*, and exactly as it's supposed to. Here is the test I put it to: I had an upcoming hip replacement, and my friend who offered to stay with me and take care of me and my house and my critters absolutely *detests* cats (I know, right?) so you can imagine how he feels about dealing with scooping litter. Now, this same friend had taken care of me and mine a few months earlier, when I broke my wrist and needed surgery (yes, in my house 2017 is the Year of the Surgery), and yeah, he really grumbled about the cat - and especially the cat box - a lot. I mean a LOT. So, in preparation for him taking care of me this time, I bought the Litter Genie, hoping against hope that it would appease him. Well, guess what? He still doesn't like the cat, but now he doesn't hate taking care of the litter! He has remarked *several* times how much easier it is with the Litter Genie! For that alone I would have paid much more than the measly $17! (Shhh...don't tell them that.) - It *really* contains the smell! Woohoo! - The scoop works *perfectly* with the Genie's orifice size. It's a pretty large scoop, so a smaller scoop would work well too. - This thing is made of plastic, so it's not going to have the precision fit and smooth mechanisms of your Jaguar. But hey, $17. So you may have to wiggle it a bit when you put it together to get it to close tightly, and to get the scoop holder to be fitted, but that is a small price to pay for how well it works. It *will* come together, and the scoop holder *will* stay on. - HERE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU NEED TO KNOW! So LISTEN UP! When you first pull the bag through and tie it off (the knot where you tie it becomes the bottom of the bag (this will make sense to you when you are doing it, I promise)), and after you close up the Litter Genie (so it's ready to go), *open the top*, pull out the trap door (this will make sense to you also when you are doing it), and *manually open up (expand) the bag so that it's wide open*!!! The act of tying the knot makes the bag crumple up all together, like it's shut tight, so i f you *don't* stick your hand in the (still clean) bag from the top, and push the bag wide open, the bag will not (or at least may not) actually open up to accept the clumps of litter!! They will stay above the trap door, with you wondering why all the great reviews, because "damn this thing doesn't really work!" It does work, but the weight of the clumps is not going to cause the bag to open wide on its own - so open it up wide before you try to put anything in there! I'm now 2 1/2 weeks post my new hip installation, my friend is still here, and he's still not only not complaining about the litter, but actually still praising the Genie (and that was even after he carried the first full bag out to the trash!)

Saved my housing situation.
My roommate constantly wavers about moving out, and the apartment smelling bad has been one of their biggest complaints. I tried so many different litters and sifting litter boxes and really the only thing that truly works is just taking care of it every day. Which its so unpractical to throw a bag away every day, not to mention exhausting, and even then its making the garbage can stink. This thing makes it so easy to just scoop every day when I notice it, and it traps smell completely. I even know for sure its trapping the smell completely cause when I open it its horrible, just the worst, it's almost doubled as a vomit receptacle on occasion. The best thing to do is keep the latch closed while there's waste in there, scoop the new waste into the space above the latch, and then close the lid and open the latch to drop the waste down into the big compartment. It holds a lot as well, I can go over a week without taking it out with two cats using the box regularly. It gets pretty heavy waiting that long, but the bags are sturdy enough for it at least. It's not only gotten rid of the apartment smell completely, I've been able to cut back on the amount of litterboxes I have available. Our cats are noticeably happier having just one litter box thats clean all the time and a backup one on the porch. And its so nice to have that bathroom space back. I would have gotten an automatic litter box but I heard those things end up stinking after a while cause urine soaks into the inner workings and its a real hassle to clean them, I'm glad I just got this instead. My roommate hasn't brought up moving out since and has been happily adding new furniture to the apartment and changing the layout to make themselves feel more at home. There's no way I could find a nicer more responsible roommate in my area that's cool with cats to replace them, so Litter Genie really did save my housing situation. My only complaint is I wish the little plastic hook on the front of the sliding latch thing would catch better to secure the latch closed. Its like this little plastic nub that sticks up and you have to press the sliding part pretty hard to get it to hook under the plastic lid and it kinda slips. It'd be nice if it had some type of button you could press in like the way an umbrella works or something.

Great odor control, but very dusty when pouring
This cat litter does a good job controlling odor, especially for a multi-cat household. The baking soda odor control is noticeable, and it forms solid clumps that are easy to scoop. For daily use, it works well and helps keep the litter box area smelling much better. The main downside is the dust when pouring it into the litter box. The first time I poured it, there was a lot of dust in the air, almost like smoke, and it was hard to breathe for a moment. Because of that, I’d recommend pouring it slowly or in a well-ventilated area. Overall, it definitely has pros and cons. I like the odor control and clumping performance, but the heavy dust keeps it at 4 stars for me.

So much better than using a trashcan
I was getting sick of using a small bathroom trashcan when cleaning my cat's litter box, it was unsightly and did nothing to contain the smell. This Litter Genie looks so much nicer, it's much more convenient to use and traps the odors much better. It was easy to set up, and I like that instead of having to go get another trash bag when it's full I just have to pull out the roll and tie up a new waste bag (the cutter tool is also very nice to have).

Great product
OMG I've been sleeping on these for so long! My only regret is that I didn't get the larger container, but this works very well and is easy to use once you get the hang of it. The laundry room has never smelt better, even though we used to use a different product that had similar claims of odor control (it did not). I will absolutely be upgrading to a larger version at some point since we have multiple cats, but I wanted to try this one out first since it was on a good sale at the time of purchase before spending more money on one of the other models. The pail seems well made and durable, and I really appreciate the built in bag cutter which makes removing the collected litter very simple. As long as it's kept clean (washed out when I deep clean the litter boxes during my monthly deep cleans) it should last a long time. The litter scoop that comes with it also seems to be well made and sturdy, and also works well to separate the clumps from the loose litter.

Good System for kitties- GREAT for humans
So, I got this because it was prettier than my current kitty litter holder which works great but is seriously unattractive. The Litter Genie does indeed work but, the truth is that with that lip thing that I really do NOT want to have to clean to- this put my ugly container just ahead of it in workability. Yeah, the old one looks terrible but, on the other hand, it doesn't take expensive refills and doesn't give me something extra that I would have to clean. Since, technically I don't HAVE to have something that looks good (it's not placed out in the open), I guess the old one stays for now. So, why the 5 stars? Well, because, like I said before: Litter Genie is a great system, I just happen to have one that works just a little better FOR ME. So, that doesn't mean that it doesn't work or that it's a bad product and I refuse to dock stars from a decent system just because my lifestyle works better with something slightly different. That and, I'll admit that the off-label use that I've found for it is an absolute GOD SEND. See, I live mostly alone with the husband gone on business more often then not. Unfortunately, an injury has seriously reduced my ability to walk/stand right now and, of course, the dumpster is across the rather large apartment complex. This all means that taking out the trash on a daily basis just isn't needed (the bags just don't fill up that fast) and also, physically impossible for me. We also have no garbage disposal in the sink either. A girl still has to eat though and table/kitchen scraps do indeed happen. Well, needless to say that putting those scraps into the trash can indeed start to stink up the ENTIRE PLACE in just a few hours... Starting to see where this is going? ;) Yep. I was standing there with this actually pretty darned good storage/disposal system designed to hold in the stench so that you don't smell it that I just didn't need for the cats and a major problem with icky smelly stuff from me that I had no idea how to handle. And, thus, I did indeed intone the most infamous words in the English language: Why not? Worth a try. Usually, these words do indeed lead to disaster but, once in a while- once in a LONG while, they actually lead to something good (which is why we keep saying them) and yep, this was indeed one of those times. For kitchen/table scraps? This thing is PHENOMENAL. I LOVE IT. Now, so far, my method is to drop my morning coffee grounds in with whatever else to try to help (just in case) with odor control and I've always taken it out after a couple of days maximum but, so far, not even raw chicken bones has caused any kind of smell after a full 48 hours. Okay, granted. I haven't tried any longer than that so far for the stinkier stuff but- way I figure it? Even allowing me to wait until I get home from work the next night makes it worth the purchase because that means that I can take it out on a night when I'm not standing in front of the stove/walking around the kitchen for over an hour. :) I have also been able to put off the trash ALL WEEK with non-meat items in there and not a single whiff of stink. Other caveats is that I have only tried it with chicken bones and cooked fat from a steak so far. I also haven't tried it with fish either. Also, mentioned, I have been religiously putting my coffee grounds in there to mix with whatever else to (hopefully) help with the odor control. Finally, I ensure that there is no residue or anything on the bag above the little slider thing and don't use it for anything liquid. All that being said, so far? It's going great and I plan to experiment further as time goes on and meals create different kinds of scraps and life in general creates different lengths of time. So far though- even if it proves to be useful only in the limited factors that I've tried until now? It's proven itself a VERY useful purchase that I plan to keep around and definitely keep using.

Litter Genie standard size
Love this litter genie! Very happy with my purcase!! I use to use disposable diaper bags and each time I'd clean the litter box I'd have to being the bag out to the trash.....no more! I have 3 cats and I'm able to go 6-7 days before I need to remove the bag from the Genie. It gets a bit heavy because I go nearly a week, and I've got to wiggle the bag out of the container because it's full but the bags are strong!! Also I have not noticed ANY smell, at all! That is a bonus for sure . Three cats and the 14 foot bags last me a month. I've since changed to buying the 28 foot bags. I bought a second one to put in our camper which will make cleaning the litter box easy and convenient while traveling. My only concern is the tray that slides in and out to drop the contents of the litter box into the container, I just wish it were made from something other then heavy plastic. It has a little "lip" on the tray you slide in and out and if that brakes your going to be out of luck sealing off the contents of the bag (although I'm sure I could figure out something). Overall, highly recommend! I wish I'd bought one sooner. The bags are a bit pricey but they are great at hiding the odor and they are strong. I did purchase some "no name" brand to use in our trailer and they seem just as strong but doesn't seem to mask the odor as well as the ones by Litter Genie, so when I'm finished with them if that doesn't change I'll just buy the Litter Genie bags.

Convenient!
I purchased this because I was looking for an alternative to using a new small bag daily to scoop my cats litter. This is such a great solution. I cannot smell the stink even after scooping and keeping litter from a few days ago in the Litter Genie. My only complaint is the scoop can get quite dirty and it being stored out in the open may create a smell if you wanted to be really picky, but other than that, it think this is an amazing, efficient, and convenient solution to scooping litter!

Scoop That Poop!
What I Like - I’ve always been a huge fan of these type of litter disposal units since they’ve been a thing. After trying the other brand and having that last a long time, and also trying a Diaper Genie, I decided to try this Litter Genie Plus Pail. I was surprised at how well made it is. Functionality is top notch and it’s extremely easy to use. The refills are easy to install and there’s lots of room inside. The built in blade is always a plus and makes cutting the bag easy when it’s time to throw it out. I had no need for the scoop itself but it’s well made for plastic, but I have a metal scoop and much prefer that. A really good value and made the switch worth it to me. It works extremely well at keeping the odors of used litter inside the pail. What I Don’t Like - Nothing yet.

The Litter Genie is awesome
I don't usually leave reviews for products but felt the need to give this one a good review so others know. It does the job and it does it well. I have two ragdolls and live in an apartment. I really didn't want to put cat poop and pee in my bin in the kitchen. This locks away the odours really well and it's not at all difficult to use. The refills are a bit on the expensive side but they do last a decent amount of time. I wouldn't be without Litter Genie now. Fantastic product.
