Highly recommend
I got this set to read to a 2 and 4 year old and they are hooked and have asked for them every day this week. We immediately ordered the second set. Cute stories with colorful illustrations on every page are fantastic for the littler crowd, there is enough repetition that they can chime in occasionally but I'm not bored, they get the perfect amount of frilly pink princess content balanced with strong independent empowered princess content, and the sentences are short and simple enough that when the 4 year old is ready to practice reading in the next year or two these should be great to work her way up to. This should be an add to cart no brainer for any kids 2-7 once they can sit still and listen to a few chapters or are ready to practice reading chapter books themselves.

Cute Monsters, Brave Princesses and Great Fun!
I highly recommend The Princess in Black books! I have read these books aloud to 3- to 5-year-olds, and they absolutely love them. The stories follow Princess Magnolia, alter ego The Princess in Black, whose kingdom borders Monster Land. The monsters are cute, silly, and not scary at all, making the books perfectly innocent and funny for this age group. The children find the battle moves like "sparkle slam" and "princess pounce" extremely hilarious! An unexpected bonus is that her princess friends have flower names like Honeysuckle, Snapdragon, and Orchid, which opens up a great avenue to learn about real flowers. The short chapters are perfect for early independent readers. I have gifted this set many times to 5- and 6-year-olds who read independently, and they feel so empowered saying, "I can read real chapter books!" Boys love it too because the main boy character is Duff the goat boy, whose alter ego is the Goat Avenger! There is so much action and fun here for everyone. Truly a delightful series

Great story and pictures
My 4 and 7 year old boys love Princess in Black stories at bedtime. We have read them several times. Mr 7 does not like to read books to himself but happily reads several chapters at a time to the family dog. He is eagerly awaiting the arrival of the next book in the set so we can keep following the princess and her friends.
